oh-- I was saying that about mid-west people tongue in cheek!! The same with miami people. Most people are nice, I would say 100s of people past us walking and just smiled or stopped to say they had yorkies or other small dogs. Sad to say, I remember the 4 or 5 rude people most. That is my error!!
As to the come backs.. you guys are great!! I wish I could have thought of some. Now... being raised in the south... we would add "bless your heart" to any insult so you "appear" to be nice
For example... the lady who said "dogs like that should not be out" you could reply "oh bless your heart, dogs like you shouldn't be out either"
