We live on the water, on a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. I go kayaking in the river and streams with the dogs, and DH and I take the furbutts boating on the river and in the bay. There is an island (Hart-Miller Island) we go to that is a major swimming hole (lol) for folks here.

For some reason, my Yorkies are prone to walking off the pier, especially when they are paying too much attention to what I am, doing instead of where they're walking.

Sounds like you live in such a beautiful paradise and are so lucky to live near the water where there is a lot of activity to take advantage of. Bet your babies have a great time on the water. I can see why they would need life jackets!

Haha! Let me be real: We live at the end of a creek, our boating activities rely soley on the tides (we get stuck in the mud if we leave or come home at the wrong time), and it's a muddy bottom in front of the house...if I fall in and try to stand up, I'd be up to my knees and stuck in the mud! So for swimming for humans, we have to go somewhere, like to the island. We can fish off the pier (I don't eat anything I catch due to pollution), but we have to pay attention and stay out of the water when the bacteria counts get too high. Not good for the doggies either. But it does look pretty, and we haven't been flooded in 50 years, so I'm not complaining! Oh and the mosquitoes will run me out of here or eat me alive one day! Lol!

You know what Carmel does?? LOL He goes in front of us and wait for us. Our little bodyguard Your babies must enjoy all the water!! As for now, Carmel and Emma are afraid of water, which is why I got the vest so they can start to play in it!

OMGosh! What a picture you paint! lol! As long as it makes a pretty backdrop for your house, then it's perfect, IMO! Timing sounds like the key factor for you because of the tides. I bet it is a very pretty place.

When my mom died 3 months ago, her home was given to me. The dh and I have to make the decision to move and fix it up. It's a great house, and it is only 2 miles from where I presently live. The only drawback is that it is located on a creek and the mosquitoes are HUGE and PLENTIFUL! I really don't think I could handle it. It would take a lot of spraying to control them and I wouldn't feel comfortable letting the Boopster out to play later in the day. They will literally swarm you. So, where I live now is still looking mighty good to me! We have a lake about 2 miles from us, but we never go there. If we had a boat, it would be a different story, though. Instead, we just bought an RV and are planning to travel away from the area a lot more.

It looks like a simplistic, no frills vest. Originally sold for $20. Maybe it's discontinued or something. I don't think they could sell them at any price if there were too many reports of performance failure, I think they'd be forced to recall them. I think they'd be better than using nothing at all though.

When mine fall off the pier into the water, I don't know if it's enjoyment! Lol. They do like the kayak and the boat, or maybe they just like being with me??? No, they do like to do things... have adventures.

Aw, that's a shame about your Mom's house. I wish you luck on your decision. As the bugs have gotten worse in later years, we are considering putting up a screen house closer to the water so we can enjoy more time outside. Half of the sprays I've bought don't phase them at all! I'll be making bug suits for the pups, lol!
