| Poopie questions I told you all I would have questions in my introduction post I didn't waste any time. So as my title states, I have poopie questions. We just got Dexter a week ago and he is 8 weeks old. For a tiny little thing, he's been doing pretty good with the potty training. However, we have a crate that is the appropriate size for him (they can't get any smaller, lol) and he pee's and poops in there. I bought the special spray to clean such messes (and follow the instructions doing so). I had also made a divider (since I don't know where to get one) out of thick cardboard paper, to prevent him from making such messes. That didn't help & I threw the divider out. This tends to happen more so at night, even after I get up at 1am, or 3am to take him out. We also bought him a pet playpen. We put him in said playpen when we are going to go out, well when we get back we can see that he pooped, but no poopies anywhere to be found. He eats his poop sometimes. So I went to PetSmart and tried to look for the pills that you put in his food to prevent him from doing that. Except, it's for dogs 20lbs & over. So I read that putting seasoning salt could help prevent that. Except, I'm worried about him eating salt. Do you all have any recommendations? Any help with my problems would help. Oh also, my hubby bought him GNC Ultra Mega High Calorie Booster, again it states dogs 20lbs & over. But what I did was just barely swipe some on my finger and have him lick it. He didn't bother, so I put it in his mouth. Well, not even a minute later he vomited. I know it was the Cal. Booster, he's never done it again, because I haven't given him any more. I'd appreciate any and all help I get. Thank you |

| Hello and welcome! Since he already pooped and peed in his crate, you have to make sure to clean everything and get rid of any smell so that he doesnt go in it anymore. Also, that divider is a great idea. You have to give him only enough space to stand and turn. About the poop eating problem, I have never dealt with this but I heard pineapple in their food will make their poop undesirable when it comes out. I never heard of the GNC stuff but I will try Nutri Cal instead. Also only use it if you believe that your dog's sugar is dropping (i.e. his gums are pale, he's lethargic..)

| ^^I agree, Nutri Cal or white Karo. No need for daily supplementation. Use only when the pup has symptoms of hypoglycemia. No seasonings or salt. These are bad for your pup, and potentially very harmful. At 8 weeks old, it's difficult to regulate the pup's system to get them on a pooping schedule, especially if they are on the smaller side. You may consider piddle pads.

| Thank you so much. I was asking about the Meat tenderizer because a vet had recommended that for my sister to use on her yorkies food in order to prevent that awful habit. I had also read it in several different places. I also purchased some Karo prior to my hubby buying that GNC supplement. He hasn't eaten his poop so far Quote:

| My vet recommended Adolphs Meat Tenderizer. It is unseasoned and contains no MSG. I found it at my local Fry's for under $4.00. FOR-BID powder was also recommended - but it is a lot more expensive at few dollars a pack and you will need to use several. You can see reviews for it at Amazon.com. Worked for some, not for others. And pineapple. I am trying the pineapple with Abby - she just loves her own poop! They eat Wellness - must be so good she wants to eat it twice. LOL. Max gets some pineapple too. They think it is a great treat. I got the crushed pineapple in pineapple juice (no sugar added) and give them about a teaspoon each twice a day. FYI, if you think the eating of poop is gross, wait until they throw it back up - EW!!! I thought I was going to join her in the yack fest last night. That was a first. We have only been on the pineapple for a few days. She does not try to eat her poop as much, but still sneaks a chomp now and then. The vet was not that concerned about the poop eating because she is only 12 weeks old and puppies sometimes do it. |

| I gave my pups a little bit of Puppy Nutri-cal the first week before I went to work - they loved it and it did not upset their tummy. Abby was just under two pounds when I got her and Max was just over 3 pounds. But now that I know they are eating okay they do not get it. It is good to have on hand just in case. |

| I cannt help you with the disappearing poop, but the GNC brand calbooster (if it is the one I used) looks likd tar and smells almost as bad. I purchased some for our 70lb very old dog and he refused to eat it. On the list of ingredients the first was "vegetable oil",no wonder he didn't like it. Hang in there on the pottie training. Your baby is just that,a baby and will improve over time. Mina came to me at 12 weeks and is now 6 months. I can count the accidents that she has had on one hand and they have all been because I got busy and lost track of time, didnt take her out on time. She is now learning to go to the door and hopefully bark to tell me she needs out. |

| I took Thor out every 2 hours without fail for the first 2 weeks after that I started I dreading the time by 30 min then every 3 hours. He is 6 months and goes out 3 times a day now and sleeps from 10pm to 7am. It takes time and lots of sleepless nights

| I wouldn't give anything to an 8 week puppy except Nutri-cal, if necessary! Don't expect too much of him right now as far as potty training goes or you might get frustrated.
