| quick question about food and water the night before getting neutered I am taking Snooze in to get fixed on Monday morning. I know the vet told me no food after midnight but does that mean water too? Can he have water the morning before or no? He goes in at 8am. Thanks for all your help. |

| Our first vet told us no water, but our current vet allows a little water up to the time we leave home. Current vet also says no food after 9 pm. Instructions vary. My boys don't drink in the am until they have food, so it has never been an issue for me.

| Thanks Taryn0405 I will do that. What should I expect as far as recovery goes? He is 6months old and right at 7lbs. Will he just want to sleep and for sleeping currently he sleeps in bed with us or with our daughter (she is 3) is that still ok the first night home. I wont let him sleep with her (she moves around) but is it ok for him to sleep with us? Will he come home with pain meds or no? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the help. |

| Any type of procedure they've had was pull food and water by midnight or 10 pm depending on what was being done. Good luck on your boy's neuter. Let us know how he does.

Thank You I will for sure. I am a little nervous for him. I hope he does ok. I think I am most nervous about handing him over. He doesnt like anyone to touch or pet him unless it is Myself, Hubby or our Daughter. So this should be interesting. I am not sure what to expect. Poor little guy. | |

| Tibbe is a big water drinker but the night before his neuter, dentals, etc., I just pull his bowl at midnight and he does just fine. He's not out running and building body heat, etc., and apparently their tummies handle anesthesia better the emptier they are! I'm sure he's a bit dry by the time he gets his water post-op, but he's given an IV during the procedures and that keeps him going until he does. I'll bet your little guy will do just fine. Hope he has a totally uneventful procedure and sails through it all just fine.

Gizmo was actually just neutered two weeks ago yesterday. And the first night home he was really groggy. He was still happy to see me come home and see my hsuband, but basically we bought him a big fluffy bed from Target (it was on sale hint hint hehe!) and he slept on that. Night time, he sleeps with us, so instead of having him at the foot of the bed, I pulled him in between us and he just cuddled. He was basically back to his boucey self the next day. But I did give him the pain meds as described. I'm not going to lie, the vet wanted us to keep him "down for 10-14 days" but there was no way I was going to keep him penned in a crate when we were home, he would have been way too anxiety ridden so we just used caution. Made sure he didn't go on stairs, put on our kid gloves and played gently, and got alot of bulley sticks for him to chew on! I would be cautious with the 3 year old, especially when he comes home on Monday. Simply because she'll be happy to see him and he'll want to be able to play and that's a no-no the first day. By the way, Gizmo weighed in at 4.7 lbs and did fine!! So, we'll be thinking and praying for your baby! Cuddles and licks from Gizmo!

| My vet says no food or water past midnight. After the surgery I give them ice chips but no food right away because you don't want him to start throwing up. With pain meds he will probably sleep alot which is good. I always put mine in their kennel so they can rest better. Good luck with everything. He is a good weight. We liked to have never got Dudley to 4lbs. I would not do the surgery with his weight any lower. Scared me to death. lol!!!! He did fine and yours will too. |

Snooze will do just great. Once he starts to feel better, it'll be hard on you cause he should really not run around or jump for about 10 days or so. Once the pain, if any, wears off, they go back to being their little terror selves.

| Just wanted to give an update. Thank You all for your kind words and helpful information. Snooze did well. He is back to acting like himself. The Vet said he handled the surgery well and woke up fine but was very unhappy to be left alone in the kennel so they had to hold him so he would stop crying. Poor guy... I was able to pick him up that same afternoon and he was a little out of it the first night but better the next day and back to normal today. So all is well! Thanks so much for all your help. |

| Glad to hear snooze is doing well. ZoE gets spayed tomorrow. Her vet said no food after midnight, but she can have water. Strange how we all get different instructions before surgery.
