| floppy ears? My little Ziggy (9 weeks old) has floppy ears. Does anyone else have a yorkie with floppy ears? I heard that shaving his ears might make them prick up, but im a little nervous doing this, does it work? Is there anything wrong if I leave them like that? He is gorgeous so i wouldnt wanna do anything too extream to change his ears, but I also heard that it healps keep their ears fresh ad clean when pricked up.. Any advice? (this is my very new yorkie, first yorkie, so i just wanna be the ebst mommy \) |

| Welcome to YT! your pup is very young still and their ears can go up and down as they teeth. Shaving and taping can help your baby's ears stand. I'm not sure how to go about it, since I have a floppy eared almost 3 year old.

| My little girl has floppy ears as well, I love her that way and think she is adorable! She has never had any ear problems from them being floppy. You can try shaving if you want, it won't hurt your baby at all and it might work, if it doesn't work the hair will grow back pretty quickly anyway and then you can just leave them.

| Dinky is floppy. Last week I saw someone had these green ear supports on her dog. (not a Yorkie) We decided not to tape. I think the ears are cute either way. |

YT Addict | I have heard about successes with shaving their ears. As ArmaniMan said the hair grows back quickly, and it doesn't hurt. You can also tape them, it basically kind of trains the cartlidge to always make the ears stand straight up.

| My girl has floppy ears too and I love them. She was groomed today and I told them to leave the ears and beard long.

| Samantha has floppy ears that I love! I wouldn't bother with shaving and trying to hold ears up. If you want to try it, you might find someone who has done it before and knows how. Jeanette |

| I trim my little ones ears. When I first got Abby her ears were down, but after I trimmed them they perked right up. They both had at least a quarter of an inch of hair that I trimmed and still have a little extra hair - I am not comfortable with shaving them either. One of my first Yorkies (Jackie - she was 17 when I had to let her go 6 years ago) had one broken ear - she was such a cutie. She had so much character. Her broken ear fit her personality perfectly. |

| Your baby is still very young and his ears could go either way, and will be gorgeous regardless. Shaving them certainly won't hurt but it's no guarantee they will stand up. Rocco's never did, and here are the results, which I think is adorable:

| I guess that trimming the fur off the top of the ears takes the weight off the ear so it can stand up easier. It just helps the ear to be strong and develop as it should. I'm not sure about taping them. That sounds dangerous for a puppy. You know how much trouble they can get into in a moments time. It seems to me if you taped them enough that it would not come off under any circumstances it would be very uncomfortable for the puppy. I guess some breeders feel it is worth it though. |
