Default Andis clippers on sale at PPE! Which set would be best?

PPE's 'Friday Only Sale' this week features two different Andis clipper sets for only $49 each.

They look like pretty good prices so I'm considering one of the sets. Which one do you think would work best on our yorkies? And is Andis a good brand of clippers? I'm familiar with Oster but I've never used an Andis.

This one? Andis Pro Animal Home Clipper Kit - Electric Clippers

Or this one (which also comes in pink)? BLUE - Andis Easy Clip Grooming Kit - F.O.S.

Bonnie I have the blue/pink set and I really like it, especially for the cost. The only drawback is blades. They only make 10, 4f,5f and 7f sizes( which is all I need for my guys) I have had mine since right before christmas and they work really well. I did my guys Joey/Zhoie cuts with them about a month ago. It comes with 3 blades and I think it was the 5f I had to ordered seperately. I gave a little over $60.00 for my set from Amazon when I ordered them.

I just bought a clipper at TJmaxx- it looked like such a good deal-$19.99 (don't tell but I've been using my husbands beard trimmer on Ziva!!!)
It is a Conair Moda-Groom ll professional animal clipper model PGR85PK w/ 2 speed ceramic blade system. The cheapest I found it on line was $70!
It is very quiet and did a nice job, comes in a pretty pink case. They had some 1 speed ones too in a light pink case.

Thanks for the input! The Joey/Zhoie look is what I'll be trying for so I want to make sure to get the right set for that.

After you mentioned the price on Amazon I did some googling and found PPE's sale price isn't quite the deal they make it sound - they show the regular prices as $125 and $155 when other sites have them for much less. So now I think I have time to consider my options instead of rushing to buy from this sale. Thank you!!

The blue one come with the three different blades, and it seems like the other one comes with only one blade. The blades I've priced were around twenty dollars apiece so it seems like the blue one is a great value. I think the main difference between the two, is the Pro can be used on larger dogs, but you would have to buy the extra blades separately. If you're just using it on your babies, the Blue Andis seems like the best value. I think the 7F is what is used on Joey.

I didn't realize blades cost so much! What about the combs? Does the blue set have the size(s) I'll need? PPE has a set of several combs to fit these clippers for $12, but I think the ones that come with it sound pretty good.

The blue set says it's only one speed and the purple set doesn't mention speed(s). One speed should be enough though right?

I'm talking myself back in to these clippers!

Bonnie, I don't know how much you want to send, but I quit using the Oster A-5 when I got my Oster Freestyle Cordless at PetSmart. It's $99 comes with a case, 5 combs, cord for recharging, but the plus for me is it's a dial head with blades #9, #10, #15, #30 & #40 built in. And you can get a replacement blade in case it ever gets dull. I'm actually going to go ahead and get a blade to have a spare on hand.

I do my Zhoie's cut with it and I love it. I shave her back with the #9 and she is a cotton coat, it takes it flat. Then you can dial to the #40 for the ears & pads. Dial to #10 for belly and butt. LOL.

Just take you time and find one that feels comfortable for you to use.

What do you use the 5f blade for? I'm only thinking of grooming a couple of my babies with these and I have no hopes of doing anything fancy. Do you think the blade selection is adequate for my needs?

What about the size of the clippers? I don't have very large hands but I don't want something tiny either. I already have the Wahl Peanut for those 'special needs' areas.

I think the combs are pretty cheap. The blue set comes with a 7FC which I think is almost the same as a 7F. I think the F stands for finishing. The only thing I've heard is that some people get more than one blade because the blade gets very hot and can burn the dog, so they change blades or let them cool down. I would think one speed would be enough, but I really don't know. kalina82 knows a lot about grooming, and talks about different blades on this thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-7f-blade.html

This is all your fault, you know! Your post this morning and then the email from PPE have had me thinking of nothing but clippers all day. I loved that Oster set you sold this morning....to someone else.

They have at least a couple of different models of the clippers you mentioned. Are these the ones you have? Amazon.com: Oster Freestyle Cord/Cordless Clipper: Kitchen & Dining Or these? Amazon.com: Oster FreeStyle Cord/Cordless Clipper: Kitchen & Dining

How long have you had yours? What is the battery power like? My Wahl Peanut has made me a huge fan of the cordless grooming tools but I don't expect much from it since I only use it for little jobs.

LOL..I haven't used it for anything yet. I use the 7f for the Joey/Zhoie cut. I just wanted it in case I ever needed it. I have never used the combs either, I just use the different blades. I have never used the 10 either. I mostly use the 4f and 7f. I use the 4F for a normal puppy cut. I have a small clipper for tummy, ears and potty areas. The size is very comfortable to me and I have smaller hands, of course these are the first clippers I have used so I can't compare them with anything else.

Great thread - thanks Nancy! I pm'd Kelly and Jenny (Mimimomo) to see if they'd come offer me their input.

The thread Nancy linked mentioned the 5F, but if everyone is liking the 7F so well I could always just start with that one and see how it goes. Thanks!

AHAHAHA....I know, I know....when I saw this post...I literally cracked up...I knew I had you on a roll, LOL.

Oh, I've had mine for close to a year now.

The 1st one is the one I have...it's black with no stand. I only have Zhoie so, I can do her entire trim and not charge it everytime. I not run it out yet, before I put it away I recharge on like the 2nd trim. I don't know about getting hot either, I always give Zhoie breaks in between . It's only used for her back, neck and chest areas because I leave her legs long.

I use a Peanut for her butzie and pads too. But I have used this one too and it was great.

I think this is the purple one? There's only 1 review: Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Andis 20910 7-Piece Pro Animal Clipper Kit

I think the blue one is the same as pink, some say it runs very hot & it's very loud: Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Andis 60105 12-Piece Easy Clip Grooming Kit

Andis is a very nice quality clipper. I have these & it's very quiet, the 2nd one is a bit heavier: Andis AGC Super 2-Speed Dog Clipper | PetEdge.com
Andis AGP Super 2-Speed Clipper w/ #10 Blade | PetEdge.com

If you're serious about grooming @ home, I suggest investing in good clippers which you can purchase detachable blades according to your needs. Comb attachments are ok, the cut doesn't come out smooth, but if you want a longer length w/out cutting them short, it will do. Just fyi, the coat has to be tangle free in order for the comb to run through the coat...& the plus of using the comb is that you can start w/longer combs & work your way shorter.

7F is great for thicker cottony fur babies & for very hot/humid areas. For thinner silky haired fur babies, 5F would be ideal. 4F is good if you don't want them to look 'shaved' or 'bald' lollll. 10 comes w/the clippers & is used for trimming the private areas & mats that are to the skin.

Jenny, you are terrific! Thanks for coming and giving your input. The advice about the combs was much needed - I am glad to know about them. And I'm very interested now to read about the running hot and being loud - more things I hadn't even thought about.

I'm off to read the links you posted right now.

Give those beautiful babies of yours hugs for me, and extra kisses for my Momo-man!
