Andis clippers on sale at PPE! Which set would be best?

Jenny, what does a 7FC blade mean, is it the same as a 7F?

I have the blue Andis set and have never used the combs. I have to say that I can't compare to anything else as these are the only clippers I have had, but I haven't had a problem with them getting hot. The blades or the clipper themselves. Of course I only do my two and it doesn't take that long and I do take breaks and clean the blades pretty frequently while I am trimming Jada and Bogie. I do want to invest in a better set down the road.
I just wasn't sure if I would be able to do the grooming myself when I started and wanted something inexpensive to start out with.

That's exactly how I'm feeling. I only have two that I keep in shorter cuts, the others all have long coats. So I'm trying to decide whether I could/should keep those two cut or just keep letting the groomer do it.

I'm going to sleep on it overnight since the sale is good thru tomorrow, but right now I'm leaning towards the blue set like you have. It got mostly great reviews on Amazon, and it's not so expensive it's out of my range. If I knew I was going to like/be good at the clipping thing I'd be willing to spend more on something like that wireless Oster, but..... we'll see.

I agree with you both. I will probably get a corded not to expensive set that I can put a 7F blade on to, in case I want a closer cut. The Oster is just to bulky for me to handle with Zhoie small frame and short legs. I love how the 7F blade cuts, but it was big around, long and she's small.

I have a cordless Conair (Costco 24.99) with a ton of combs and accessories for people, but just doing feet, ears, and tummies/hinneys I keep running out of juice before I'm done.

I do have a tiny Wahl that runs on an 'AA' battery that I love, bc I can just pop a new battery in it, but I don't want to attempt any larger areas with that one. The dogs don't seem to be bothered by it either.

I have the one from the first link and I have to say that they get hotter than a three dollar pistol...so hot that I have to turn them off and let them cool off so my dog doesn't get burnt.

I'm so glad you posted this thread because I've been having the roughest time trying to decide on clippers. Reading everyone's input is extremely helpful!

You can buy a spray made to cool them down quicker for under $10.

Even with the spray, would you have stop and let them cool down for a couple of minutes? I'm not sure how I'd manage that with my guys - either we'd have to twiddle our paws while we wait or I'd let them loose while we wait. If I let them loose I'd never catch them to get them back on the grooming area.

Bonnie, The blue set like I have ,don't get hot. I do have the spray and I periodically use it while I am grooming because it cleans the blades also. I test the blades on the back of my hand every few minutes and honestly they get a little warm to to touch, but mine have never gotten hot. Bogie is a pure cotton coat and has very thick hair. I usually do him first and I have never had to stop and wait for the blades to cool.

Oh good! Murphy has a thick coat, too. He's the one I was worried about, because if I put him down it would be hours before he'd let me pick him up again. He likes getting his hair done about as much as he likes having his picture taken.

Mine didn't just get warm, they got seriously hot. Kalina has the thickest coat I have ever seen on a Yorkie but not nearly as much as, say, a Chow! I don't think they should get THAT hot. Maybe I should return mine since I just bought them last week and only used them once - well, four times if you count stopping and waiting for them to cool down.

I would. At least exchange them and see if the next pair works any better. I don't think any clippers (except maybe cheap junky ones) should ever get that hot that often.

Did you get the pro animal set or the blue set? I have the blue set and if the clippers you bought are getting that hot I would return them. I can do Bogie without stopping other turn them off to reposition him and they just get a little warm to the touch. I wouldn't want them if they get that hot.
