| Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I'm sorry, but calling information you don't agree with "crap" is quite offensive to me. You said you learned from this site that Ol Roy was junky food, presumably from a thread that wasn't directed at you. Someone else is going to come on here and read this thread (hopefully before they've put their $ down on a dog with a bad breeder) and learn that there are things that should make them run in the other direction from a person like this. None of it is crap. If you don't agree with it, ignore it, but don't tell others that their info is crap. Hopefully, you will be one of the lucky ones who get their dog from a bad breeder but doesn't have any problems. It happens once in awhile. But in case you don't get so lucky, this forum will still be the best place to get info to best serve the dog.

| Yorkdaddy and Babiegurl, hope you both have great luck with your dogs. I was lucky enough to get a wonderful little dog from what I call a pet breeding and she is the most marvelous little dog. We already had 6 Chihuahua's when I had the chance for the Yorkie and it is amazing how different the two breeds are. Even though they are both small dogs they have totally different characteristics and behaviour. Bella (our Yorkie) is much smarter than our Chihuahua's (don't tell the Chi's) and she never stops moving. My husband and I said she should have been named EVEREADY like the battery! She has had no medical issues, no illness (so far) and no major personality disorders. I am very much against puppy mills and that always gets me going but now that you have purchased your dogs the best advice I can give is to make sure you don't fail them. Remember they are not disposable and even if they have issues it falls to you to care for them. Sickness and in health. My hubby and I stretch $$ pretty close to take care of the furkids we have but they repay us in ways to numerous to name. Good luck and I can't wait to see pictures of both when you get them home! P.S. My Bella doesn't bark unless she wants to play or someone has something she WANTS....then watch out!

Donna- tell me your secret! Mine bark like MAD, especially if they see someone walk by with a dog. I'm dog sitting again this weekend and my little Buddy has decided to chime in with his opinion of the passersby, too!

I did not think you were trying to ruffle feathers. I just thought that you were misunderstanding the intent. Happy to see you here.

| Good! Now I am going to harass you with all of my questions! LOL....Like how young is too young to have her spayed? In Chicago, our PAWS said it could be done as young as 8 weeks, but isnt that too young? How about food? I fed my Cavalier Spaniel Beneful for years without knowing it was a terrible brand and from what I've read Yorkies tend to have digestive problems. What food would you reccommend? I am going to stalk you with my questions!!! |

| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | York Daddy: I don't know the age of the pup you are thinking of getting this wkend. But if that pup has not been BATS tested please make sure the health guarantee covers Liver Shunt, and make sure the health guarantees against LP. And at 16 wks test for BATS maybe 50-75$ test depending upon where you are. I am as serious as a "heart attack here". Do you know that LS is over 30% in this breed and it is a serious condition that if it requires surgery could cost upwards of $2000; not to mention the unestimable cost in heart ache to you as the owner of this pup. Luxating Patella is very very common not only in this breed but in many other small breeds. It can be very minor ie Grade One, which if you are lucky and do the right care may not manifest itself other than arthritis as the pup gets to mid senior years, or it can be much more serious requiring surgery in the first two years of life. Again think minimum of $2000 for this surgery. So when you pick up this pup this weekend understand that roughly you have a one in three chance (or more) that your pup will have one of these conditions. Sobering stats huh? Next look at the cost of annual vet care for a healthy Yorkie. Dentals for Yorkies are usually necessary. That is extra 1-$200 over regular vaccines. Oh yes and those vaccines need to be split up; and likely you will need to pay a vet visit plus the vaccine cost ; which will triple the "normal" annual cost of vaccines. So when you sign up to own this Yorkie you do so knowingly.

Food....everyone has different opinions. I feed my pups Castor and Pollux Ultramix. You definitely need to put her on a puppy food when you do decide what to feed her. I assume you know there is a forum for diet and food information.
