| Strange Sound My yorkie occassionaly will make a sound that's like a cross between choking and wheezing... it seems to always happen when she gets really excited, but lately its happening more frequently lately. Has anybody heard the same thing from their yorkie??? Somebody told me "it's a yorkie thing"... |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | OMG.... I was just sitting here at the same time listening to one of mine and the strange noise coming form her. Something I have never heard b4. Kind of like a hick-up but with a squeaky toy lodged in her throat! How ironic is that...? But to answer your ?... two of my Yorkies do this sort of sound when they are startled or excited also. Not sure why... but my oldest boy Quincy has done it for over 8 yrs now. I doubt that it is anything to worry about.

| Someone posted a very helpful link to help tell the difference between reversed sneezing and collapsing trachea.

| Ginger has always done this (she's almost 8 now) and Maggie does it sometimes too (she's 2). I know a lot of others do this too. |

| Both of my girls do this also when they are excited. Olivia is worse than Jezebel. I have always thought maybe it was asthma or something. If anyone knows exactly what it is, I would be interested to know the cause.

| It sounds like what Jada does at times and hers is reverse sneezing. It is a choking hacking sound. We went to the vet this morning for Bogie's annual and I took Jada in with us because she had been doing it more the last couple of weeks and she was a little wheezy last night and this morning. The wheezing is allergies and Doc said that allergies can make the reverse sneezing worse. It sounds much worse than it is. If she is doing it if you will take your hand and lightly tap the nose and stroke the throat it will usually make them start breath correctly. Blowing lightly in the nose works too.

| My Barney reverse sneezes. This time of year he is worse and goose honks and chokes at night. The only things that can help him are steam (I run hot water and we hang in the bathroom) or a sniff of peppermint oil (organic essential oil of peppermint) - I wave the cap near his nose a couple of times and he gets over the spasm. He's been reverse sneezing for his entire life of nearly 11 years. Of course a vet should diagnose the condition to make sure it is not CT.

| It's normal to make that noise when they are excited however I remember my Mel was making that noise a lot.. when I took her to the vet they discovered that she had bronquitis.. they tested for collapsed trachea but it came out negative tks God.. if it gets worse you should take her to a vet because they can have collapsed trachea.
