| Yoshi is afraid of a 2 pound maltese So I go to petsmart today with Yoshi to get him a collar to wear around outside, and there is this hot girl w/ a little maltese girl. I noticed Yoshi was a little scared of other dogs he had seen before, but these were all like 40 pound dogs and half of them barked. The little maltese, named....I dont remember, I was lookin more at the girl...came up to yoshi and was tryin to play with him, and then he just starts trying to get away and generally freaking out scared. The dog was smaller than he is, and the closest thing I can compare her to is a cotton ball. A very small one. So what can I do about this, because I want him to be social with other dogs and I am supposed to get them together for a play date w/ that girl. Plus, how am I going to use him as a chick magnet if he is petrified of their dogs? Thanks much |

| Yorkies aren't supposed to be chick magnet's, he is your pet. My advice is to find a hot chick with a yorkie, lmao. Seriously, when he get's a bit older put him in a puppy pre-school. Maybe, the fluffy cotton ball scared him because he couldn't quite understand what she was...still lmao... Sorry, I'm not making fun of you or Yoshi...that's just downright cute and funny to me. The poor baby isn't a chick magnet!!!!

| The best thing you can do is get him used to a few new sights and sounds every day. New people are very important and after he gets over some of his fright and you see a pretty young thing, you might ask her to hold him for a minute because you are trying to get him used to new people. The puppy socialization class is worth it's weight in gold too if you can work that into your schedule.

| My logan isn't afraid of much. but i found he would freak out if a dog comes on to strong. I guess there is an ediquette (sp?) to it. I sniff you, you sniff me then we play. So my suggestion would be to have the hot girl hold her maltese so yoshi can get a good wiff and realize that she's cool (the dog not the hot girl) don't hold yoshi while doing this or you'll just freak him out more. Then set them down together and see if they're better. This worked with Logan and his now girlfriend. When they first met Logan ran right up and started playing and it freaked her out so we had to seperate well then Logan got distracted and she was able to sniff his butt without getting jumped on and then they've been friends since. So yoshie just might be a little shy.

| Don't laugh at a power of a yorkie. My brother borrows/kidnaps Tiny from time to time and make him to stupid trick to impress the girls. |

| I don't have that problem, as my Yorkie is an attention whore. My Maltese, naturally gets attention no matter what. |

| yoshi has like no fear approaching any human, or an oncoming shopping cart, or anything not dog-related so far. its only dogs that he shies away from. i'm tryin to set up a play-date w/ the maltese girl, and i'm gonna try ponyup's advice as well as what some of you all have said |

| Play dates are wonderful for socializing them with other puppies.

| Yoshi is probably afraid of the maltese because it is all wiggly and he doesn't know what to make of it. When they meet again, keep both dog on leash. Don't force Yoshi to play with the puppy right away. Take Yoshi and bring him near the Maltese but give him enough distance that he can escape from the maltese. If he shows any interest in the puppy, praise him. If he want to move closer to the puppy, let him. You an also do what Ponyup suggested. Just remember not to hold Yoshi when you are introducing the puppy to him. |
