I'm really confused as to why the OP is complaining that the responses were "mean". What I saw was excellent advice, geared towards preventing a potential tragedy, tendered by people who know their stuff. People who have seen the worst stuff first hand and would like to prevent others from going through the expense and pain that they have seen. Once again, I want to commend the great breeders here who offer up sage advice, only to have it thrown back in your faces by people who only want to hear what they want to hear. Please don't think for a minute that your wisdom goes unheeded. You have all had a greater impact than you could ever even begin to know. I do believe that your efforts (despite being called 'mean' by some) has resulted in more healthier and happier dogs. Thanks again for all you do. |

I myself deal with 2 of the best vets every one in Dallas and one here. The one in Dallas is vet to most of the Yorkie breeder/exhibitors in the metroplex. The other is a Canine Reproductive Specialists. I've spoken to both on your little girl's situation and both recommended spay/termination of pregnancy......Both stated you are taking your girl's life in your hands. And both of these vets stated that they are vets but, their knowledge is no where near good breed specific breeders. And at any given time they do not hesitate to call on these breeders for assistance. |

Tough situation. That's why it's so important to spay/neuter. Hope everything works out well and Bee comes through this safely. |

This is not about you, You are the one that did not have her spayed, it is now your job to make sure she is ok. Go take care of things the right way. |

If you don't mind me asking- which vet is it in Dallas? I live in DFW and would like someone who really knows what they are doing when it comes to my baby! |

By not acting....you are in fact making a decision. Lauren, this makes me so upset...for you and mostly for Bee. I am being kind and loving when I say these things. This has tragedy written all over it. I recommend actually taking her to a vet...not just calling on the phone. I am really surprised you are waiting till it's time for x rays. Ugh....I don't know what else to say. :( As it is you will likely be mad or hurt by this post...and I would like to avoid it for your sake as well as mine...but I really feel compelled to try to guide you. Still will pray for Bee. :( |
I posted earlier, and apologize if I have offended you by agreeing with everyone to have her emergency spayed. You had originally said that the vets feel that she is too small to be put under anesthesia and that is why I told you about my experience with my little one who was only 2.2 lbs when he was put under and was fine. I normally would never suggest to have a dog emergency spayed - but when all the chips are on the table - it really is the only logical answer for the safety of your little girl. If the stud was a 2 lb. chihuahua I never would have said anything - but its not. You really are taking a chance with your little girl only because you want to see cute puppies. Hey everyone loves cute puppies, but at what risk? I really do wish your little girl all the best. |
I know how you feel. About 2 yrs ago my daughter rescued/adpoted a 6 lb mixed breed dog from the animal shelter and being that I do rescue work they did not require her to be spayed so I thought. weeks later we found out she was pregnant (why they did not spay her and failed to inform me of her condition) We were faced with this same dilema> I talked to breeders and vets ALL told me it all depends on the size of the dad as to whether or not she could safely deliver these pupsand it was imparative that she had an xray as soon as we thought the skeletons would show up. I had to get two x-rays. The first one looked good and the pups were small enough but they were concerned as the final weeks is when they put on the most weight. I was lucky. We went ahead w the pregnancy because when we found out she was already 7 weeks along and I was told that could be risky to terminate that late in the process and she could hemerage. You have the ability to prevent a possible heartache later on. I know it is a very hard decsion and only you can make it, but please don't wait to long or you might miss that window of safely terminating the pregnancy. I wish you the best. Also I was lucky three of the four pups went to family and I see them all the time. The forth lives near by. I did have a contract that I will take the pups back if they can no longer keep them. It is a big responsability to make sure they go to good homes. I turned down several people. |
