And if you think that not all puppies in petstores come from mills, that's just naive There might be a tiny percentage of pet stores that get their puppies from local breeders, I'll give you that. However, the money to be made by buying puppies cheaply from the mills is way too attractive to the greedy ones. It's just not cost effective for them to buy from breeders, and any responsible breeder more than likely wouldn't sell to them. I'd love to hear any breeders take on selling to pet stores, if they would or wouldn't and why.

I wasnt trying to be nasty and DONT call me Naive.I know all puppies Dont come from Puppy mills I have asked and I have seen many breeders take their puppys to petstores. Maybe the petstores where I live are different from those around you. I dont know But I did read a lot of these post on this thread. An I wasnt trying to be nasty I said I hope that wasent the reason .To me your post sounded nasty.

Im not trying to start any trouble here. Just because I dont agree that all puppys From petstores come from mill. I know a lot of them do just not all. Im all for shuting down mills and I hope the word about mills gets out and someday they stop them.Shut them all down.

That really is all this is about - there are too many cute puppies here that did come from pet stores & I would never post something to throw that in their face ....the posts are here because it IS getting close to Christmas and a big profit time for Pet Stores...and in turn - lots of mills.

People can see the same thing on the net as they see here - it's not a slap in anyones face ...actually I love hearing that anyone who did buy in a pet store had a good experience - isn't always the case - but I'm always glad to read that.... & I'm not about judging anyone - it's about the dogs in mills.

She said this thread is ONE YEAR OLD - but worth another run with the holidays coming and all the Pet STore talking on the site - not intended to offend ANYONE who bought from a pet store -

It isn't just petstores that deal with puppymills. Brokers are pushing more puppies than the petstores. I feel like this thread was starting to go in the direction to offend those of us that have bought from petstores. Not meaning you V.

I'm all for differing opinions and if people read this thread just for the number of replies it seems to be getting ....then Good cause when all is said and done ...we all love dogs and that's why we're here -

and BIG hugs to all the people who did get a dog from a store ...I get outspoken and do apologize for that - but I'm coping with my obsession about mills lol - I think I am ..I did tone down my posts about them - but will always try to do it tactfully

and Shadow - you are SO right - brokers are just adding to the problem ....but our country makes so much money off Registries and such I have no idea what is really a good solution - except to change the laws in each state...or better yet - the whole country in one BLAST.

Thank you V! I am Pepper's mommy and I can tell you that in all of the years knowing Villette I have never recieved anything but love and support from her.

When I got my baby from a local petstore I didn't know any better...he pays for it with everyday of his life. He came from a puppymill via Hunte Corp. He came to California from Arkansas. He is very ill and he will die soon. He will be 3 years old in Feb. I will accept that some of you have dealt with petstores that DON'T buy from mills but that is a very very small percentage. The majority buy from mills and byb...that is a fact. There has only been a couple of people who have made feel really badly about buying Pepper from a petstore...their attitude was "it was my own fault" that I have a very sick puppy. But the truth is no one can make me feel worse than I already do! Yes saving a puppy is always worthwhile. YES everyone of these babies deserve loving homes. BUT for every puppy we buy from a petstore we are dooming at least 2 more! In Peppers case...2 came in because Yorkies were selling and 1 MORE came in to replace the "defective" puppy! Not to mention the hell that the moms live in! All of this is my opinion and my expirence! I would NEVER down anyone for buying a puppy from a petstore...but I DO want the information out there about where MOST of these puppies come from! Like Villette I don't want to offend or hurt anyone! I am happy for those of you who have healthy happy pups....where ever they came from! I just wish I had one of them. I wish I wasn't watching my Yorkie...who I adore...becoming crippled and unable to eat, pee, stand, sit, play without me to hold him up! It hurts to see him have seizures, to cough and vomit every single day! Believe me the mill, broker or petstore won't be holding my hand when I have to have him put to sleep...soon! But maybe, just maybe if he had come from a good breeder there would have been someone to stand by me when that time comes! As it is my husband and I will deal with it alone. We will pay the medical bills and we won't even sue the people who caused this. We chose to keep him, knowing that the day would come when we would have to make that choice to have him leave us. I know when that day comes Villette will be there crying with me...because she has been there and cried with me over the bad days with Pepper. For this all I can say is "Thank you"!

Sorry about this rant....Pepper is having a very, very bad day today and I can't seem to be reasonable on this subject at all! So, having stated that this ALL my opinion, I ask you to really think about it before buying from a petstore. Do not think that I am saying you are a bad person or should ever be ashamed you bought a pup from a petstore....if you love and take care of your baby that is enough for me!

Oh Kathy...If people here knew how brave Pepper is ...and you too - they'd be in love with him just like I am - I've always wanted to meet him in person and feel like I already have thru you - but it breaks my heart when he has bad days

My theory on puppymill pups, Like My Maya, are only the really strong survive and for everyone of the strong ones there are thousands of poor babies who did not make it or did and have life long problems. So while I feel fortunate the Maya has been healthy, her temperment would have landed her in the pound under different ownership. It is just so sad!
