| Adding a new yorkie to the family advice We were thinking about adding a female yorkie to our family and currently have a 3 year old male. I wanted to see if anyone out there could extend some advice as to pros and cons that could present themselves? |

| If your 3 year old enjoys the company of other dogs, he will enjoy having a friend in the house. Having 2 means twice the vet and basic care expenses. Taking 2 on outings is more challenging than 1, same with traveling. Having 2 also means twice the love and fun.

| I have a male and a female and its all pros from me they get along fabulously. I will always have a male and a female. It may take your male a couple of weeks before he accepts her so you should know that. Sometimes the older dog snubs the pup for a while but they will be best friends in time

| Ahh! I hope that's not the case. I am also hoping to bring in a puppy and we are definitely worried about how it will affect our 4 year old male yorkie.

| I have never heard of the older pup separating from the owner when a new pup comes but like I said I have heard of the older dog rejecting the pup for a while

| From things I've read, the most common route is not liking each other at first and then gradually adjusting. Eventually, most of them get along I think. I'll let you know how it works out when we add our second at some point lol. You could look up Viv's epic journey with Snickers and adding Reesie to her family! P.S. Also, make sure your male is neutered before you add a female to the family if he isn't already. You wouldn't want your new baby female getting pregnant accidentally! |

We did go through a period of jealousy, but it was relatively short lived and my boys are inseparable now...and they still love their human companionship.

| We are also hoping for a girl, but my male has been neutered since 6 months, so no concerns there. He is super clingy to us so we are anticipating some jealousy. He is also really docile with not a single aggressive bone in his little body. If anything, I worry a new puppy will dominate him!

| Okay we have 5 dogs. When we got our two bassets both females and littermates they were the queen of the house until we got Zoe our Shorkie. The bassets are 19 months old now. Zoe is 15 months old. The basets were so jealour of Zoe and even today there is a bit of jealousy. Then we got Zach our Yorkie who is 11 months old. They were all jealous of Zach but it never took away for their affection towards us. Our last dog was Oliver our little shih tzu rescue and everybody is jealous of him because he is the baby. They're just like skin kids. When you have a child and you bring a baby in the house there is going to be jealousy. If you love them equally I don't think there will be a problem. |

| We have 4. We have 2 mini schnauzers, 2 yorkies. I have always introduced a new puppy very slowly. Never leaving them alone with the new dog or dogs. I spent weeks, taking Dudley to another part of the house and taking one dog at a time to play with him and get use to him. The only problem I could forsee would be to always give the dog that has been there longer first in everything. Back when we just had schnauzers we had one male (Max) 2 females, Mandy and Tina being the new kid on the block. Tina is little and fiesty and she decided she was going to rule. Max put her in her place real fast. Took some stitches over the eye and on top of the head but she submited to his place in authority and never had another problem. Even with snacks, the one being there the longest gets first is the way we have always done it. Good luck with your new baby. There is probably going to be some jealousy. Now, Dudley being 4lbs. and looks like alittle rat next to the schnauzers thinks he is going to rule. lol!!!! He will learn. You will enjoy having a male and female. They all are so different in their personalites and everything. They are so fun. |

| I have a 4 year old Westie and Lucy - who will be two in August. The male/female combination works well for us ~ though we still had challenges in the beginning. Ringo was a little put-out at first - but we made sure to give him LOTS of extra love, attention, and exercise and that helped. Your boy will have to learn to share your time and affection and that can take some getting used to.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | We have 4 each 2 yrs apart from the other. Each time we introduced another member of the family it always takes awhile for the older ones to get use to the younger addition. There is plenty of nibbling and biting and just plain annoying the older dogs, but it passed in time. Just don't let the biting become a habit. When they do bite you should correct them ASAP. Now they all love one another and each of them are a wonderful addition to our family, wouldn't change anything!
