I was going to suggest that. That helped ALOT when I was crate training. But like someone above had done, now that Mosh is older and I am home every night, I took away his crate. Honestly, I just assumed that he would want to sleep in my bed, but ironically he sleeps wherever he is comfortable. Most of the time, he sleeps on the floor next to my bed or right at the foot of my bed. I guess every dog is different. As your puppy gets older, you'll find out more about his personality. Just have patience. Good luck with everything!

Is it not possible that he wouldnt have to sleep in the crate, maybe get him one of those soft beds and lay it next to your bed so he can see you. I would think htat unless he pottys in the house or something he might be ok to just be out, that might help some. I have only made Charlie be in his crate 1 time and that was to bring him home from the breeder when I bought him. I know allot of people truely believe in them but I just think its sad to coop them up. Charlie sleeps with me and hubby and he sits by us on the couch I mean he IS family.

My dogs love their crates and we don't even shut the doors anymore...but with pups it's hard to get them to "stay" on their own bed...for people like me who roll over a lot...I'm always terrified when one of them does pull a sneaky and ends up on the bed at night that they will get "squished" or fall off the bed (our bed is three feet off the ground to the base of the frame).

Elvis actually has exactly what you mentioned a soft bed that is under my bed...but it still took some time to get him (I got him at 2 years old and crate trained) to realize he needed to stay in his own bed at night. I think for many of us who use crates or play pens, it's also a safety issue for the sake of our furkids...then again we use a co-sleeper for children here too instead of them being in our bed...my dogs have taken over the couch...and my "no dogs allowed on it" chair...

I used to sleep on the floor next to the crate with one of my dogs - so he would not keep the family away. That was in my door mat days
I crated Remy when she was first home, now she sleeps with us. It is what I want, I love the cuddling. She will go into her crate if I need her ... like something going on in the house that I need to keep her safe from. Some owners will NEVER have a dog sleep in their bed, some would NEVER have a dog sleep in a crate... to each their own.

I agree to that youf pup is feeling your frustration. First step is too calm down, second decide what you want to do and stick with it. lol... wait till you have human kids!!!!

Owning any animal is a big commitment. They need attention and lots of personal time. They can't just be thrown in a crate and expected to be happy about it. It sounds like you're gone most of the day and your mom has your responsibilites with the poor little dog.

It's your call, but the dog deserves more than a few hours of play time and then a lock down in a cell.
