That is exactly right. My nephew and I were scanning through Hoobly.com one day just look at different dog breeds, he loves animals, and I saw these English bulldogs for sale for CHEAP, 600, and we all know that a reputable breeder charges, 1500 +++++ for these babies because of health conditions. So I decided to email him, he was located in San Antonio, Tx which is about 4 hr south from me. The guy emailed me back and said that he had sold them to a Reverend, who went to Africa for missionary but the weather is too much for them and that I should contact him so I decided to. The reverend said he had 2 that he'd sell me for 600 with shipping included. I almost busted out cause I was like WOW. Well then I told him I didn't feel comfortable sending him 600 first since I didn't even know him. Then he offered me 300 and I still declined. Then he offered them to me for FREE if I'd just give him and God my word that I would give them a loving home. Of course I politely declined, since I was just checking this out not seriously inquiring about it. Well a couple of months later I seen another in SA, TX offering for that much.....when I emailed guess what??? A nurse who had went to Haiti to help with the EarthQuake relief, NEVER even attempted to email her. hmmm.... This all is so unsettling to me, makes me sad for people who actually go through with it. My only question was WHY the Rev offered it for Free to me and if that was just a way to get personal info for shipping. But I think what you did WAS awesome. Bet they felt dumb for this act. I honestly hope there really are NO puppies in these Cameroon peoples hands only can imagine their treatment.

My guess would be that "free" wouldn't be "free" for long. About the time he sent you "pictures" and got you excited and reeled in, then he'd say, oh, but I can't afford the shipping...could you send me a couple hundred to "help" out on the shipping - the dogs are free, just need some shipping money.
I seriously doubt any of these people even have dogs, it's all such a nasty rip off. It just amazes me how many people are doing the Lord's work as missionaries in some far off land and just happen to have popular dogs for sale. yeah, right.
I believe I mentioned I got the "I'm deaf and will send extra to hold the puppy and then you send the 'extra' back" I think they plan to send a bad money order/fake cashier's check and you don't find out about it until after you've sent them some real cash back. Criminals.

You are probably right about that. I know a lady in town, BYB and has offered me a pup since we both have yorkies, I have kindly declined and said I am happy with my two. I mean she feeds her dogs OL' ROY ughh, breaks my heart... She has new litter like 2* a yr with ONE FEMALE.... My dogs eat 4-health, which is 4* on dog food advisor, we've tried the 5* ones but my dogs are finicky and then they stop eating it after a week or two; but anywho back to the original-she shipped one of her pups to tennessee and they had sent her a check.... they called her told her the puppy died and cancelled the check... I wasn't shocked but she was sooo mad and hysterical about it... her female wasn't even Registered, she sent pics to Continental KC and they registered it. SHOCKED ME! But I wasn't even excited about these OEBD I was just seeing what the deal was on the prices and that is why I even looked.... my lil' nephew was excited of course but he didn't realize what I was doing and when I explained, he's 8, he goes them people are so rude. I couldn't help but laugh. But I am guessing the Rev was gonna try to get me excited. But if I ever get an English Bulldog I will def get references since they are a very expensive and known to have health issues....

I'm surprised that she held the check long enough for them to be able to cancel it.

Heads up, in addition to Western Union, Walmart Greendot Moneypaks are now the way to scam people out of money. Sadly had an elderly lady taken for 500.00 the other day...not dog related. Gotta love the new ways to move money around....

Having worked at bank for many years I have seen so many scams like this, regardless of what the person is "selling". It is very sad to me that people take advantage of others any way they can, my advice is to be vigilant, cautious and smart, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

What a hoot to read the exchange of emails by the way!!! It made my day

I have seen similar scams on cars, high-end handbags (yes.. my daughter fell for one) and even renting houses. But.. puppies??? That is so sad !!

My goodness, when I posted a want ad for a puppy I waited for 6 months, EVERY day I got an email from the Cameroon scammers. They all send the exact same type of email and don't answer questions right away they just try to seem innocent.

I have never once fallen for their scam, but I'm sure plenty have, LOVE this thread though!

Ha! What a ride! Just saw this, read it all and could not help enjoying the back and forth with that greeder and Jodi! Classic. One of the best threads I've seen to illustrate the ins and outs of the scam. Just wonderful gaming - that had to be fun. This is such a scam. You know darn they don't live in the United States or they would know there is no such state . and the "ok" after every sentence. Geez, what a dum scammer. Good job scamming her/him back. Love it, just priceless.
