| ???? Wish I had that info up front...... my fault for making an assumption. So it isn't an example of a breeder trying to pass a poorly bred yorkie off as a Parti. Still, not a good example of the breed you look for when choosing a dog to breed from what can be seen in the pic.

| I misspoke in this thread and wanted to clear it up. In my previous post I said, "You can find some here on YT that will let you know if the lines go back to accepted parti lines or are more likely a figment of a greedy breeder's imagination." -- In reality there are no accepted parti lines as it is purposeful breeding of a disqualifying fault as per YTCA and AKC. I was trying to make a distinction between pups that are being purposefully mixed with white-coated dogs and those that this was probably done way back in the dog's history. There really is not a distinction to be made as the AKC and YTCA are very clear about all parti's, chocolates, and golds being disqualifying faults that should not be bred under any circumstances. The following is from the akc.org site: "Colors Puppies are born black and tan and are normally darker in body color, showing an intermingling of black hair in the tan until they are matured. Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply: Blue: Is a dark steel-blue, not a silver-blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs. Tan: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan. Color on Body The blue extends over the body from back of neck to root of tail. Hair on tail is a darker blue, especially at end of tail. Headfall A rich golden tan, deeper in color at sides of head, at ear roots and on the muzzle, with ears a deep rich tan. Tan color should not extend down on back of neck. Chest and Legs A bright, rich tan, not extending above the elbow on the forelegs nor above the stifle on the hind legs. Weight Must not exceed seven pounds. Disqualifications: Any solid color or combination of colors other than blue and tan as described above. Any white markings other than a small white spot on the forechest that does not exceed 1 inch at its longest dimension. The following is from the YTCA.org (breed parent club)site: "In summary: . DISQUALIFY „X Solid color dogs such as a solid color gold or solid color chocolate „X A chocolate and tan dog or other unusual combination of colors „X A white dog with black and tan markings (parti-color) " . I apologize for my previous post and will be sure to pass along only AKC and YTCA qualifying info from now on.

| Just curious here... Dont "ethical" breeders sometimes have surprise colored yorkies, like parti, or gold, or chocolate, and dont they typically cull (kill) them? I mean, its part of the Yorkies genetic make up from when their ancestors were originally bred, so it stands to reason that they will pop up every now and again, even for breeders that breed to standard. Right? I am not trying to ruffle feathers here, I am just wondering. |

| You should really ask about the breeder on here before buying the puppy! It may really save you a lot of heartache or result in you finding out everything is great! I was shocked how useful (I thought it would just be fun) using YT is...if I'd looked up the breeder I got my Elvis from on here...well I'd rather not say I'd not have gotten him, but I'd have at least known they were a noted "bad breeder' If you are having to take an internet pole of what this dog may be, then maybe you are already not trusting what the breeder is telling you? I rarely agree with Debra, anyone who has seen a thread we are both on knows that we feel the same way on most issues and yet disagree on so many others, but I think she's right here, "off colors" would not be a trait an "reputable" breeder would allow in their breeding stock, or a breeder adhering to AKC standards-which Debra listed for you... LilPuppyLove Dont "ethical" breeders sometimes have surprise colored yorkies, like parti, or gold, or chocolate, I think most breeders would tell you no, but hmmmmm I beleive the answer is yes, recessive genes are a medical fact...although no an "ethical" breeder wouldn't kill a pup they could just pet out and have a spay neuter contract for-you'd probably see a breeder really into the breed preservation and standards would just give the pup away to a loving family, not kill the pup as was done before historically. They most certainly would not use the pup for breeding as those who are into color mutations and Parti's would...they'd seek out that Parti, Gold or Chocolate pup for their own breeding program-I'd like to think that both types of breeders could be equally deemed ethical and that both would do a little homework to see weather the issue was due to a recessive gene outcropping or weather there was a "contamination" in their line. Then again..depending on who you ask some might tell you there are no such things as a Parti, Gold or Chocolate...that's really a whole can of worms on its own...not sure they do exist other than they are being created now (except Parti's sorry I believe in their historic lineage-oh man Debra don't pounce on that one with me again)... |

| Thank you for your reply. Like I said, I dont want to stir the pot so to speak. I was just wondering, because I think color alone, unless they are purposefully breeding for non-standard colors such as gold and chocolate, wouldnt make someone a bad breeder, if they do in fact meet all the other requirements for an ethical breeder, like health testing, ofa, chic, ect. APRI is now allowing Parti's to compete and earn their championship, and it has been rumored that AKC and the YTCA are both contemplating allowing the Parti color to be showed seeing as how it is in fact part of their genetic makeup. I personally love Parti's and really want to own one, but I love ALL colors of Yorkies, cause its their personality, not their color that won my heart... |

APRI were you talking about the American Pet Registry Inc. I'd never heard of them prior to now...hmmm...how reputable are they it looks like I can just send in information about my dog and my dog will be registered.I guess that's cool though, a "pet quality" animal can compete and get some certification-am i reading their mantra correctly? Any-who I agree even if the AKC doesn't yet recognize a breed or a coloration of a breed finding a breeder whom hold OFA certification (and does genetic testing of their line) for their dogs is imperative-they show they are breeding for health, and temperament above anything else, even if they are breeding strictly for pets they show they are breeding quality dogs. I really hope the OP of this thread finds a reputable YT talk recommended breeder, if I ever add another Yorkie to my pack here I'd only go through YT to ensure the quality of the breeder-not to say anyone and everyone on YT is a quality breeder but I think the bad breeders don't get too far when they get found out on YT and there are so many breeders on here that are genuine in their efforts weather it be to preserve breed standards or to breed quality Parti's... | |

I was gonna ask if the mom had a hard time whelping that can of pop!! LOL Have no idea why some feel the need to place a can of pop next to a puppy. Especially a newborn puppy. It's no secret that newborn yorkie pups are smaller then a can of pop.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Mom deffinately looks like a blue and tan yorkie. No worries! And she is not unnecisserally badly bred either! I wish folks would not jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts. WElcome to YT! Last edited by Ivy1; 12-16-2010 at 11:50 PM. |
