| Spirit airlines. Charge is 200 round trip. Dog in soft carrier on floor under the seat. What BS. My ticket was less than that. I once asked them if they have big airfare sales and I book a ticket will my pups ticket be on sale too? NEVER!!! Time to get someone who can get a lobby together.

Thanks for the tip on how cold the floor is, I hadn't realized. I will be sure to keep a blanket handy for Thor. I generally push the "one carry on, one purse" rule to the limit, but I don't think I can do it this time. I'll be carrying a week's supply of potty pads for Thor, plus Christmas presents, plus I'm going somewhere cold, so I need more clothes for me. That's asking a lot of one piece of luggage. That last time I flew, there was a guy with a ten lb yorkie mix. This dog was TERRIFIED. He ended up switching seats with a girl in the emergency row because she wanted to sit with her friend in my row (does that make sense?). He left his dog under the seat next to me, because you can't have a dog in an emergency row. I felt bad for the dog, so I stupidly poked the side of the carrier to be friendly -- and she bit me, right through the carrier. And it HURT! That gave me a new respect for the power of canine jaws. Anyway, I didn't feel so friendly towards the dog after that, even though I know it wasn't her fault. We were going to move the dog to be near her owner after the flight took off, but he slept the whole way, while his poor dog was stuck with strangers. ![]() Regarding the whole scanning thing, I'm confused. I flew recently, and went through a standard metal detector. Are they only in some cities, or was I totally oblivious or what? I have Mike (alaskayorkie) looking into legislation to outlaw pet fees. ![]()

| Thor's Human Donating Member | I'm going to a pretty remote area, so I don't think I'll have access to potty pads once I'm there. Yes, Virgin gives you 5 points for every $ you spend, so Thor is getting me 1,000 FF points. And apparently you can get a flight on Virgin for just a few thousand FF points.

I know Delta will not allow you to buy a seat for a pet. They said I could buy another ticket BUT the dog could not sit in the seat. It must be under the seat in front of me. No logic to it -- just the rule.

| My husband and I were just checking flights from Palm Springs to Seattle for $168 including tax roundtrip per seat. We wanted to buy our Yorkie, Brandy, a seat, but they said no, we had to pay the $200, put her in a carrier under our seat and it counted as a carry on. The airlines have the craziest pricing and policies of any industry. |

Here is another twist. I checked prices to fly with Copper a couple of months ago, it would have required us changing airlines on the way to the destination...so, if you have a layover and have to change airlines, the way I understand it is that you have to pay the new airline $100 also. Instead of it costing $100 one way, it would be $200 and $400 for the round trip. My ticket wasn't even going to be that much. I decided the trip wasn't worth it.
