I was shocked at the $168 price too unbelievably cheap! But $200-$400 to carry your dog and put them on your lap or on the floor! That's outrageous!

They do go through everything. I had to put Kaji's carrier through the scanner and Kaji had to go with me through the xray machine completely naked. I don't know how it would work now with the body scanners, but last year they were pretty thorough. The TSA agent last year scared me. She said she would have to confiscate my dog with a straight face. Then she said because he was so darn cute!

Wow so sorry to hear about these prices! Luckily we dont fly anywhere, but at least you will have your best buddy with you!

Do you know if taking on a pet counts as your carryon with SW?

I would definely, take an oversized purse and at the prices being mentioned, DH would probably take up carrying a purse temporarily too

Yes, It does. I do take an oversized purse, with essentials for me and my dog. Put my money and ID in my pocket, because they will request that the oversized purse be stowed overhead.

Yup, $200 each way on lufthansa to fly transatlantic. My dog weighs 3.5 pounds, on what planet does that price make any sense at all?? But yet I still pay it, to and from, twice a year. I did the math and it costs about $40 a day for in home pet care in Berlin where I live, and if I go to my parents for more than 10 days, the cost of the plane is cheaper!

Oh but on lufthansa, the dog and bag counts as excess baggage, so you still get a carry on and a personal item.
