| strange night Last night dh had to go to a meeting at 7, so i thought perfect time to dye my hair. I checkef on pnut and he was laying in our bed, so i continued to do what i had to do. I finished and i was going to lay down and watch some tv, i couldnt find pnut.... i finally found him in the closet under the clothes shaking!! I picked him up and carried him to the living room and tried to comfort him, he looked really freaked out, he wanted me to let him go so i did, and he ran back in the closet!! Dh came home and pnut didnt even get out of the closet to see him!! I didnt understand what scared him so bad! This is not the first time this has happened. Sometimes if a water bottle cracks by it self he will act the same way... is pnut a real scaredy cat? Is anyone else's yorkie have these strange moods??

| His behavior does sound odd. How is he this morning? Sometimes little things that we don't notice will really upset a dog. I have a couple that get terrified if they hear thunder. Also a couple of mine get terrified at the smell of smoke. Was there any bad weather in the area or unusual smells in the house? Does the hair coloring have a different smell to it?

YT 1000 Club Member | When you colored your hair did you have to put it up in the plastic bag for a while? If so, that could have scared him or the smell of the dye.

| Hmm no he wouldnt have fell off the bed. He has acted this way before, when a water bottle cracked by itself he freaked out and started shaking and went in the closet.. and one time dh flickef his finger on his mouth and dh's finger nail hit his tooth and made a noise and pnut ran in the closet and was scared. Last night i went and layed with him and talked to him, gave him some treats. Then i got him out and set him on the bed, i started to try to get him to play with his fav toy and it worked.. he snapped out of it.. he was fine the rest of the night. He was acting normal this morning. I think something scared him like a water bottle or maybe something outside.....

| behavior Did your little one see you with hair dye in your hair? When I dye my hair Belle looks at me like she doesn't know me and backs away. Also she really hates the smell I think because it's something so different. You have a precious little one who has fears of different things. I guess I'd just do what you did to comfort and distract him when this happens. I've found that we really can't know what they are going to be scared of so we just need to be there to comfort. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I don't know if this is true with Yorkies, but with other dogs and cats, I tried to go about my business normally. Animals are so good at picking up emotions from their humans, I found that if I made a fuss comforting them, they would learn that there was something to fear and it would escalate their behavior. That only applied if they did fearful hiding behavior. If they came to me for comfort, they could always sit in my lap and get all kinds of attention. But it would be the same kind of attention they got whenever they came wanting attention... if that makes sense. I haven't yet encountered fearful behavior in Tallulah -- except shyness of strangers. So far, in circumstances where my past dogs would have tried to hide, Tallulah has been a little assertive and barked. Actually kind of cute, but I'm working on thanking her for warning me and getting her to stop before it gets out of control. I haven't had a chance to see how she reacts to thunder or other really loud noises yet... |

| Our's generally only do that if they see or hear something that freaks them out. i.e. if I get out the flyswatter in the late summer, they all run and hide. They DO NOT like the noise it makes. Do you think that maybe when you were doing the dye that a noise you made "sounded" like a water bottle cracking? Maybe when you sat something on the counter?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Roxie will fly off the bed and run into her crate every time I sneeze. She gets so freaked out. She won't come back on the bed for at least an hour. So it could be some noise freaked him out for awhile.
