Our's generally only do that if they see or hear something that freaks them out.

i.e. if I get out the flyswatter in the late summer, they all run and hide. They DO NOT like the noise it makes.

Do you think that maybe when you were doing the dye that a noise you made "sounded" like a water bottle cracking? Maybe when you sat something on the counter?
