| I was in shock... I was at petsmart today and in the toy isle. I overheard a conversation between a lady and the sales associate in the next isle and the lady was asking about shock collars because her dog "barks too much." I of course kept listening as the sales associate helped her, one of the associates questions was what kind of dog do you have and of course this lady owns a yorkie! She has a ten pound yorkie who barks and she wants to get a shock collar to stop him from barking. I was in complete shock at this! How could anyone even think of putting a shock collar on their yorkie is beyond me.. I feel horrible for that poor baby at home who's probably waiting for his momma to get home and give her kisses only to be put in a collar that is gonna shock him every time he does what is natural. I think she should have thought about what kind of dog she was getting before she got a yorkie and decided she couldn't handle it. Maybe she should have just gotten a cat? Sorry i just felt the need to vent. Thanks for listening. lol

| I do not understand how they can even be legal. I have really had to work on Ben's barking but have never considered a shock collar!! They do have one that squirts water. I did not want to use it either, but at least it would be less cruel than shocking the poor things! They also have those high frequency sound generators that DO work, although sometimes only for a short while at a time. The penny can, works about the same as the Anti-Bark sound things. Mine seem to bark at every sound after I have been gone too long. I think it is a sign of maybe being less confident in their surroundings. After I have been home for a while, they settle back down and I don't see more than the natural barking.

| Yes, Yorkies are little barkers..we work on ours constantly. I do not believe in collars that spray, shock or vibrate for many reasons..for one , the device has to be placed over the larynx (voice area) which is located next to their trachea and Yorkies have very sensitive tracheas. Some of these devices have microphones on them and can trigger them to respond by external noises not even made by the dog. I have a cute story to share though...my son and DIL have two Labs. One barks constantly, only at night. My son bought a collar that sprays citronella..didn't work...bought a high pitch noise device that goes off when he barks..didn't work...so, my DIL got a pair of walkie talkies because she was convinced "Beamer" was lonely at night outside..so she puts the walkie talkie taped around his collar and when he barks at night..she talks to him and soothes him from hers in the bedroom....wala..problem getting much better.

| I'm thinking, TAKE HIM FOR A WALK!!!! Sorry about yelling, but that would help. Apparently I'm blessed, Bella isn't a barker only if she hears another dog bark or hears something that doesn't sound right. Wait......wouldn't that make her a living alarm. |

| Too bad you couldn't put it around her neck and shock the heck out of her. Sorry, but I just don't believe in those things that will hurt your companion. I think they should be illegal to use |

That poor little thing, then she'll wonder why he's so nervous around her or have problems with his trachea! Our Bonnie is a little yapper, and has such a high pitched bark. I tried putting coins in a bottle and shaking it to make her stop, as suggested in another thread, well it scared RU so much he ran upstairs to bed and wouldnt come back down! Needless to say no more noisy bottle! lol!
