| need help shutting down active puppy mill Hello everyone, my name is Rob and I am reaching out to you for any assistance or advice you might have in reference to shutting down a puppy mill. My sister raises Yorkies and I know that the breed brings on some tenacious owners. When I did a search for “shutting down puppy mills” your site and forum came up. So, since I am trying to do what is right, I am gathering as much information as I can. I hope that I don’t offend anyone by posting here as I don’t actually own a Yorkie myself, but I do own 15 Rhodesian Ridgebacks (my kids). Now, before some of you get upset as to why I have so many… I lived in a puppy mill for 7 months (not by choice) and took as many dogs as I could handle when I left. I couldn’t bare to leave them in the conditions they were in and how they were treated. It was horrible to know I had to leave some of them behind and my wife cried for days. So here is a brief description of my situation…. When the economy went south I found myself laid off. We eventually fell behind on the mortgage, so far that foreclosure was inevitable. We were coworsed to Move to Texas where we were told buy our co-owner that the economy was booming. IT WASN’T! It was just a way for her to control who made number one for the year. At the time we were in a situation where we had few options and we thought we knew them. We had attended many shows and had one of our dogs #1 in the country in the UKC, and a second that was #4 in the country. Anyway, we made the move to this horrific place that she called a home. Even our dogs were depressed! The conditions were unbelievable! We breed and show Ridgebacks because we love them… not for the money. But when I see people that care more for the money than the animal, I have to make an attempt to stop what is going on. I lived there for 7 miserable months… multiple police inspections and AKC inspections… none of which were enough to shut her down. We spent days/weeks/months cleaning and trying our best to better the conditions for the dogs, but she had over 60 dogs on the property and they never lifted a finger to help. When I left I took as many dogs as possible… made deals or whatever I could to get the dogs to be turned over to me. We knew that after we left that there would be dogs that would die within days but my income was stretched to the max as it was with a dog food bill of $130 a week. We were correct… within days of us leaving there were dogs that had died. Not to mention other undiscribable events that take place there. We have been successful at homing many of the dogs… even our own. We have broken ties with the co-owner as we now know what kind of person she really is… a true puppy mill! I never thought I would find myself in a situation like that, but I am now determined to shut her down regardless. If there is anyone that has advice or would know someone I can talk to, I (and all my kids) would be more than grateful! Thank you for taking the time to read this, and again, I hope that I don’t offend anyone by being a Ridgeback owner… we all have the love for our pets and I am just trying to do right by the ones that I had to leave behind. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | What about forwarding your evidence to the Humane Society (rather than just the ASPCA)? Oh, and by the way, I forgot to thank you for doing what you could to help those dogs. If more people who saw the miserable conditions of puppy mills spoke up, then maybe a small dent could be made in their existance.

| I would have thought that the AKC would have jumped on our case since she has misregistered litters, and the UKC would help when they approved to allow her to have a club that was created by her misconseption. I was hoping to get the papers on the dogs that I have so we can have them fixed and homed out. I don't want any repocussions for any possible owners. I just wish we could sit down with someone or a lawyer that could give us a little advice... its bad enough that we have spent hundreds of dollars getting the dogs we have healthly. One had stage 3 Demodectic Mange (she should have had care prior to us taking her) and when we called her out on it she said to "just put the f*%$in' dog down"... we didn't and she is doing great! Her name is Nefertti and if I can figure out how to post pics I will post one of her. I just know there are a ton of dogs still there and the conditions are getting worse... her husband is super abusive to the dogs too. He wouldn't do it while I was there because I caught him beating a dog and throwing a puppy... of course I made threats... he stopped, but I am sure that he is back to his old ways now that we aren't there to take care of them instead. I would just love to have someone enter their home and take every dog and put them in homes.. where they can be cared for properly... |

| Thanks, I would have thought that the AKC would have helped us since she has registered litters that are of differnt parents. I would thought that they would want to investigate that as well as everything else. The UKC allowed her to create a club under false pretences, thought that would have them looking into things too. Just not getting any information back from any of them. I would like to see someone go in and clean out all the dogs and put them in homes so they can be cared for properly, but I just don't know what to do. I mean her husband is super abusive nad I have caught him beating a dog and throwing a puppy... I made threats and as long as I was there, we took care of the dogs to keep it from happening again, but I am sure that he has returned to his old ways. I would just like to get the papers on these dogs so we can home the rest of them out but I don't want any reprocussions for potiential families. We have several dogs that we will have for ever... Nefertiti had stage 3 Demodectic Mange, when we took her to the vet and confronted her she said "Just put the f&%$in' dog down"... which we did NOT DO and with the proper care she is doing great!! It has cost us hundreds of dollars but worth every penny. Just want that for the rest of the dogs there to.... just need some guidance... |

| Did you look into the animal cruelty laws for that city/county/state? Best of luck!

| First of all I owe an appology... I am new to this whole thing and duplicated myself... sorry! There has been a lawsuit filed by another breeder about the issues about papers and asked me to be there... no problem but that doesn't help the dogs that are still there. She is a proffesional lier and can just about talk her way out of anything.. I have seen it. We do have proof... DNA doesn't lie but how do you get the AKC to investigate it? our babies are taken care of but someone needs to help the ones left behind! Anyone know someone in the news or a lawyer or anyone I can run my information by??? This is where I am... stuck! |

| I'm sorry to hear that the Ridgeback has become popular enough to fall victim to millers. I guess no breed is safe from them anymore. My brother has a female Ridgeback and she is a magnificent dog. As you probably know, what is right and what is legal can be very different things when it comes to dogs, and laws vary widely from state to state. This breeder is probably operating just above the law, which means that legal recourse may be limited. Did you happen to get any video while you were there? Sometimes all you can really do is make some noise. Have you filed a report with ripoff report? Ripoff Report | Scams, Frauds, Reviews And Consumer Complaints. Since you've started this thread here, you could 'tag' it with the breeder's name and words like 'puppy mill', 'bad breeder' and the like. I'm not sure how to go about tagging so maybe someone could help you with that. There is also a Ridgeback forum that you could post on. Here's the link.. Rhodesian Ridgeback Forum - Index If they are a USDA breeder, you could make a complaint there, too. May not do much good, but try everything you can and hopefully something has an impact. Best of luck.

| Where is the puppy mill located? Maybe you could post the breeders info? I can tag this thread "Puppy Mill", so it would come up in a tag search

| Thank you! Yes, actually I am waiting on the RR forum to approve me so that I can post and add my information. There has been a lot of noise to the point that a fellow co-owner, that created a website to inform the public, has had his website removed... only temporary. I have agreed with a lot of what he has posted and she harrassed the website company enough to get it removed... it will be back up in the next day or two. If you know the moderator of the RR site I would love to talk to those people... this mill has been running for 20 years... your right... just above the law! Thank you again! |
