Default what other breeds do have with your yorkies

So i found out this morning i got a raise i now making $2 ore then i was an hour. I told the kids we could get 1 puppy/young dog when I thought i could afford it. Now i think is the right time to look, we will not be getting another Yorkie because the small breeder i found that i love is waiting for her male to champion before she breeds because her stud got to old (i think she said he is 4or 5)

well im thinking of a cocker spaniel or a border collie the kids want a medium small dog so i want to know what kinds of dogs live with your yorkies

I know all dogs are different i just want ideas

do alot of research before you get a cocker. They can get kinda big and I have never met one that wasnt hiper. When I had one we couldnt get it to potty train either. I love the looks of a cocker but I would never have one again. If I were to get another it would be a maltese.

I have a Jack Russell with my yorkies. She is a doll. Although she is pretty active outdoors, she does calm down inside. She is like a little momma with the yorkies. She is so gentle when she plays with Annie (my puppy). You can tell she is holding back. She even rolls onto her back and sort of waves her paws around to get the puppy to jump on her. I love watching them together! We joke that Candy thinks she is a Yorkie too.

if you are okay with the brushing I would say a maltese also.

We have 4 dogs/puppies in our home.
Boston Terrier 3yrs
Papillon 8mos
Yorkie almost 7 mos
Yorkie almost 6 mos

They all get along well. Mostly the yorkies and the Papillon play but sometimes the Boston will join in.

Another option would be a Shih tzu.

I have a soft spot for cockers, but they are difficult to train (we were asked to leave a training class with our girl and not return, LOL). They also have a whole slew of health problems you need to be aware of, too. But when socialized and trained right, they are very sweet and loving dogs.

I have a (not so) mini doxie with mine.

I have Italian Greyhounds, six of them and one yorkie. Four of the IGs are over 14 yrs old. The eight year old IG and Liz, my yorkie, get along great, Angie has always been very gentle with Liz and backs down when Liz gets pushy, as in acts like a terrier . The IG puppy is a different story. She is a very big IG, very playful and full of energy (hyper). It doesn't help that every toy and every bone in this house is Lizzy's, so anytime the puppy gets something to play with, Liz has to try to get it from her. The puppy can get too rough with Liz, so they are never left unsupervised. NEVER! The puppy also harrasses my seniors if left to her own devices, so if I can't watch her, I crate her.

When I first got Lizzy, I pretty much didn't think I would be keeping her as she was a little rough with the IGs, but she is great with them now. They respect her as a pushy little you know what. It's only the puppy and Lizzy or the puppy and the other IGs who have differences of opinions now.

I don't know how old your kids are, but unless you're set on a purebred (and even if you are) I'd say go to your local pound with the kids and see if you all can agree on a dog there. A lot of them are still young, but old enough that you should be able to determine about how big they'll get. When I was younger I loved having dogs to wrestle and play with, and big enough that I could take them for walks/runs without having to worry about someone attacking me. Plus I would never feel comfortable running with anything that was much shorter than about mid-thigh on me...just me though, my mom has a cocker, she was a shy one and she has the tendency to piddle when excited. But they are beautiful dogs. Good luck with the search I hope you find what you and the kids are looking for
Maybe a beagle? As long as they get enough exercise and training, they are fantastic little dogs.

Oh, my brother an sister (the kids) are almost 12 and 17 so they are old enough to care for the dog they want. I wont support my local humane society they are very corrupt
My local pound dose not have a dog under 50 pounds right now and i don't have a fence (I have a huge yard and two kids so a dog would have space)so rescue is out for now. I will continue to call the pound and ask what they have but im aiming for under 40 pounds when i find a breed i think will fit in well in my home i will go to pet finder and see what i can find. i will also check craigslist because those dogs need homes as much as some in rescues.

I have 4 dogs all different breeds and all are wonderful..... I have a 9 year old sheltie who is just fantastic, is great with any dog or cat we have brought in, was easy to train and depsite the high pitched barking that I have read that shelties can have, he doesnt.. however he does have a few of the nasty medical problems that can come along with the breed, like siezures (which came from a nasty bump to the head that is controlled by meds and Im comp. convinced that if he didnt knock is head he would be fine, the vet says otherwise) and he has a fatty blood condition that is controlled by a rx diet. His coat is a ton of care and is harder to mange than a yorkie. I have a 5 year old beagle, named abby.. she is crazy, loves everyone and is true to the hound breed. She was easy to train, but loves to knock over the garbage cans and she is a escape artist, but is trained to come when called. Beagles are wonderful family dogs, but I would suggest some pretty consistant training because it is a hunting breed and it will always have the instinct to do so. Lexee is my 4 pound, almost 3 year old spoiled rotten (thanks to the hubbster) toy poodle. She is a DIVA, hates all dogs over 20 pounds. She was very easy to train, as all poodles are, smart as a whip. She loves the kids and over all is a great little lap dog, she does have a tendency to be a little needy but not all poodles are that way. She isnt yappy, (some will tell you otherwise) and I plan on getting another one when the time permits me to do so. They do come in bigger sizes.. Then their is my not so little 2 year old yorkie poodle mix Tucker.. he is a combo of both breeds and is just flat out stubborn and crazy, and extremely dedicated to ME... ...

Probably more than what you wanted, but I love to tell everyone about my animals..lol.. I have also considered cockers and have read quite abit about them. I have known a few people who have owned them and other the the "excited piddling" they can have and the ear infections they were good dogs. I had a maltese and he was just terrible.... and I wouldnt own another one, and I know that not all of them are like that, but just like anyone else you have one bad experience and you stay away.
As you know just do your research, maybe take a trip to the pound, take your time..

Good luck, I hope you find your new addition soon..

Levi and I live with my brother and his little mixed breed dog, Dallas. Dallas is the sweetest little guy with Levi. I have no clue what kind of mix he is, but he looks kind of like a small Whippet mix. He is one year old and weighs 25 pounds, and we got him from a shelter about half an hour away.
