| So my 17 year old sister came home and told me that her friend has lab puppies from a dog they rescued from a puppy mill (I think a lab might be too big but if we get a puppy im sure i can train it to be gentle) Yesterday I was talking with a co-worker and she has a pug who is about to deliver. (she was one of those people who thought her dogs "weren't interested in each other" now she has puppies I Know the pugs wear health tested after the female got pregnant and they tested fine the owner already had the male fixed so i know im not supporting a new breeder. I will be going to talk to the owners of the lab and calling the vet they used today and if everything checks out Ill let the kids choose.

Pugs, on the other hand... while they CAN be active dogs, in general the breed is not super active and would be glad to lay around all day or for a few days if necessary. A Lab pup will not LET you skip a walk, whereas a Pug would probably love to skip one. lol. Also, Pugs shed like CRAZY! I have never met a dog that sheds more than a Pug (with that thin hair) except maybe a Lab, haha. So both are huge shedders. Also, Pugs in general have quite a few health problems even with responsible breeders so be prepared for that. They also can't always tolerate the hot weather, since they are a brachellyic breed (smooshed face) and are prone to getting overweight and having breathing problems.Just research both breeds extensively and don't go into it lightly before just letting kids pick. I've found it's always a bad idea to let kids pick a breed they want. My dad did it with me and I picked a German Shepherd and we ended up not being able to handle what she required or train her properly, and she ended up getting put to sleep at the age of 4 when she attacked someone.

| We have an English bull terrier female who is two years old. She was here first and has accepted both yorkies wonderfully. Not a breed I would recommend to just anybody though. You need to have alot of time because they are high energy dogs. Not for every family. Shes about 40 lbs of pure muscle. |

| Up until 1 year ago I had a Standard Poodle along with my yorkie. They LOVED each other. They played and the poodle was so gentle with Teddi. Teddi would sleep on top of Cassie, the Standard or in the middle of her curled up. They were great friends.

Thanks but i actually have experience with both breeds in fact our mom (who lives about two hours away) owns two pugs and again my sister is 17 she is defiantly ready to care for her own dog and she is going to nurseing school in the area when she graduates high school so If they decide on the lab I good with that And we are a super active family so I know we can deal with the energy needs and we have a half acre back yard to run in during down time

| Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I love seeing all the variations in the yorkie brothers and sisters. It goes to show that it's not the breed or size that matters as much as the individual temperment of the dog and the preparation that goes in to adding on the sibling.

I just see a lot of times people who just pick a random breed and don't do any research but obviously you are not that case! Didn't realize your sister was 17 either. ![]() Good luck, I cannot wait to see pictures!

| My lab is just a year old. Purebred and is very well behaved. It is always dependent on you. I love labs. She also has 15 acres to run on and we also have a corral in the back for her to swim in. She was easy to train-very easy. Labs and Yorkie's are the world's most popular breeds for a reason :-)

| We have a 3 yr old female Vizsla and an 11 yr old female Black Lab. Brandi, the Vizsla is 50 lbs and Sadie, the Lab is 75 lbs. We just brought our little female Yorkie home a couple of months ago. She is 5 1/2 months old now. While Sadie pretty much ignores her, Brandi does like to play,we are very watchful that they don't get too excited. I think it all depends on the dogs' temperments. Good Luck. |
