| ![]() We move backwards and forwards from semi tropical Durban summer to a freezing winter Highveldt, South Africa. Snow and burning beaches. MacBeth and Timothy, now both 13, have been moving backwards and forwards since birth, love the hot sand and the snow both. They do get cold, and can shiver badly - and burnt paws on the sand too - but, like children, they soon tell you what they want, and so we learned always jackets in the icy cold, but never indoors, and carry them over hot sand to the shade, and boots just not acceptable to them. Temperatures in-between they cope easily with. But they don't care for bootees on their paws at all, inhibits their senses I guess? Sleep in our bed up North, but never when we are down hot South. Yorkies do not NEED smothering... but hey! it's so cute to dress them up. |

| ![]() I am in a usually in the south but even my babies get chilled. I would definitely bundle them up warmly if you are in a cold climate. ![]()

| ![]() Hi, this is my first time here and I love the questions that are being asked. I have a Yorkie (Ky) and he's now 10 months old and full grown at 7.5lbs. He's awesome, but the weather is changing and while living in Louisiana you never know what to expect. I was informed that If you put clothes on your pet, their body temp. gets adjusted to having clothes on all the time or they will end up sick. Is this true? I keep my house cool-cold, & I never thought Ky was cold. If I cover up, I cover him up too & he loves it. |

| ![]() Guinness refuses to go out in cool weather until he has on a hoodie or sweater... It was 58 this morning and when he went to potty he only got one paw out the door before he turned around and ran back to bed under the covers. |

YT Addict | ![]() Mia loves temperature control, she cannot stand the heat and demands the air be set to her desires, and despises cold! She quickly finds the quilt and gets under it at night and I keep my house warm. They are such little creatures and I think do chill easy. I admit LA can be a damp cool, Mia thought she was home here in NE last Thanksgiving when she went down near Shreveport even wore he fur coat one day and didn't argue about putting it on. |

| ![]() I agree that there can be differences in how cold a dog gets but keep in mind that Yorkies do not have an insulating under coat that many breeds have. I never put clothing on a dog until I got Gracie. When she was a puppy I noticed she was always in my lap or laying on me or against me. As soon as I would sit down there she was! Then I noticed that when I was busy doing things she would go and wrap herself around one of the cats that was taking a nap. She was constantly trying to get heat from someone's body. Now she has pajamas, sweaters and coats. She also has socks to keep her feet warm when the floors get chilly. She still enjoys my heating pad and the electric throw that I put on the bed for her when she is cold. She prefers to get under the covers with me in the middle of the night though. My Shih Tzu never needed a coat or sweater he had a thick coat that was more than adequate to keep him warm. Yorkies have an entirely different type of coat though. |

| ![]() Tibbe never seems cold, never shivers in the cold, even the year it was 8 degrees out. My Jilly was always cold it seemed.

| ![]() I always dress Pao up since he was young. He is 6 now. If I am cold, he is cold.He has sweaters, winter coats, boots, pajama. I don't like the cold myself and won't expect him to be okay with the cold... ![]()

YT Addict | ![]() Mia has actually some nicer things than I... But they chill so easily and not enough to warm up! SO we keep her out of the elements. I know it will be nice in TX next week but I don't want to take her south with me just in case it is cool out. Besides she is saving her vacation days for the winter, she will be coming to work as she does every day, keeping a watchful paw on it. |
