| Baby gate recommendations? I'm looking for a baby gate for a 41" wide hallway. Preferably one that swings open so that my 72-year old doggy sitter (Dad) doesn't have to step over a fixed gate. Does anyone have any recommendations for a particular brand? I need to block off the exit to the garage without making things difficult for the senior citizen. |

| Whichever you decide to get...I think it would be best to get one that has no bar on the bottom so your Dad or anyone else doesn't have to worry about tripping. I have one that opens like that and love it. |

| I have this one in my bedroom door so it's not 41" wide but I think you can get extensions. http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_1...00000000L778BP I love it because it's black (I think black looks better than those white or plastic ones) and it's worked great. I've had it in my doorway since Jackson was a pup and now he's almost 2. Never any problems.

Walmart.com: The First Years - Tall & Wide Metal Gate: Health & Safety We had to use the extensions because our hallway is wide, but we wanted to block them from rushing the door. It's swings open. The bottom bar you have to step over as you can see in the picture, but we have been really happy with it. We wanted the metal so it would look more decorative then the white plastic type you see for babies.

| Thank you everyone for the input. I am testing where exactly in the hall I should put the gate before I make my final choice. |

| We have this one. Dream Baby Hallway Swing Closed Security Gate with 2 Extensions - White - Dream Baby - Toys "R" Us But, it is for our kids! What I like about it is that it is pressure mounted, meaning there is no hardware needed. Also, it has extensions if for some reason you needed it somewhere with a larger opening. It is a lot of money for a gate, but it holds up well! We had some plastic safety first gates and they were awful. They were hard to use after a while and the bottom of the gate tripped a few people.

| In order to have a door opening for the gates that are held in place by pressure, there MUST be a bar across the bottom, and that means there will be a tripping hazard. That is the kind we have, but you need to think about whether that would be the right type for you. We had an older visitor (~70 yrs old), and even though we pointed it out to him when he crossed over it, when he came back over, he still tripped. He could have hurt himself but didn't, we were all lucky. If you are going to have someone older or clumsy passing through it on a regular basis, get one that is attached to the wall on either side so that when they open the door there is no bar across the floor that that might cause them to trip.

| All of those are really nice gates. I need to get rid of the plastic one I use and maybe go a little more decorative. I thought the gate was temporary but at 2 years old it looks like we may have it awhile.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I would get one with the bars running up and down. The ones that has squares or diamonds shapes in them my little momsters can climb right over those.

BUT, I will say. If this is temporary I would suggest not getting the ones that mount in the wall. I know in my personal home, gates don't always stay where they were meant to. I love being able to move my gates wherever. But, that is my personal choice. Not sure what'll work for you. If this is more permanent you could mount.

| I use the carlson extra tall it has 2 extensions, pet door& it is sturdy and works great for me it does have the bar across the bottom but it is only about an inch high and with the gate being tall you have something to hold to when going through, i am not far behind your dad in age plus i have to be very careful due to loss of bone density
