| I think Jorja is going to have puppies~ Her fourth cycle in heat was about a month ago and we did nothing to prevent Jorja and Jetty Boy from becoming very friendly. Then, my mom became ill and had to have surgery and I rather forgot all about Jorja being in heat. I think she may be pregnant although I can't be 100% sure. She is sleeping more during the day, won't let me leave her sight (usually she is a bit more "independent"), her teats are enlarged, her tummy is "rounder" and she definitely feels heavier when I lift her. I've searched the YT site and considered some of the "signs" mentioned and have referred to various sites mentioned in posts...but I'm still not sure. Any thoughts?

| OK-- but why? If she is expecting will I need to do anything different? If she isn't is that a different problem? (Not being snarky...just don't understand the urgency of taking her in.)

| Sorry you feel that way about the breeder section. I am not a breeder (used to breed Lhasas in the UK though) but I read the breeder thread. They may not sugarcoat their replies, but they are very helpful. And they will be the best ones to advise you.

She should be seen by a vet so you know how many to expect, possibly prepare for a c-section, begin researching on whelping a litter, getting her a whleping box ready, change of nutrition intake...and more. | |

Know that at 4.6 lbs your girl might need a c-section. Your vet will be able to advise you on this likelihood and also the costs of same. You will need a mentor to help you through the whelp, maybe at this point you can ask your vet to mentor you through a whelp if she is pregnant. The breeders on here will be helpful as they can be, but are no substitute for vet care and advise. Your first step is take her into the vet. Explain the situation - that it is likely she was bred - I let my two unneutered pets get friendly, etc.

| Yes, she needs to be seen by a vet to confirm pregnancy. A vet can tell after a month by palpation. X-rays can be done at around 54 days. Until the time that you know for sure, treat her as if she is. Make sure she is eating well, no heartworm or flea preventatives, limit jumping. Here's a site that will acquaint you to what you can expect if she's pregnant. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders.

Thank you for the extra information regarding treatment of Jorja. I need to get a newer photo of her up as my avatar...she is such a precious thing.

| Well, I've read enough on the breeders forum to know that it's not really the place to go for advice as a "newbie" in breeding---
