| Just remember pet insurance doesn't work like our does where you just show your card. Vets, especially ER vets and specialists, require you to pay your bill upfront. You have to submit the forms to your insurance company and wait to be reimbursed. It is recommended that when you buy your puppy, you have a special account already set up with at least the equivalent of his purchase price in it and add to it monthly. Just read the Sick and Injured section to see how many people aren't financially prepared for unexpected vet bills. |

| Read the policy carefully on your pet insurance. Some don't cover genetic problems. I had a friend who had pet insurance and when her dog was diagnosed with a liver shunt, the company wouldn't pay because they said it was a genetic problem.

| Don't most insurances have you pay up front anyway? To me the separate account for the furbabies, like an emergency fund, would be helpful.

| When we had to take Lil Bit to the emergency vet clinic a couple of months ago I was so glad I had a savings account. My husband called me from the clinic, they wanted over $900 deposit, so my husband knew he couldn't use the debit card and we don't like using a credit card. I was able to go online to my ING account and immediately transfer the money from savings to the debit card so my husband could use it. If we hadn't had that savings account we would have had to use the credit card. It is so important to have money aside for these emergencies.

| Me too! I bought an "as is" puppy as well. I send pictures and video to his breeder and she always says thanks for the updates.
