The best thing you or anyone with a puppymill or backyard breeder puppy can do is to start putting money aside in a special savings account for future vet bills. Start right away while they are still healthy so you are prepared.   |  
 
  Ladymom is right.  I just went through this with our pug dog that we bought from a pet store that purchases their puppies from Hunte Corporation (a broker that buys puppies from puppymills).  Our pug was perfectly healthy, until she hit about 5 yrs of age.  Then her health went rapidly downhill for 3-4 yrs (major vet bills), we had to put her to rest on my birthday, this last May 20th.  It was heartbreaking and so hard to watch her suffer
