| Owls want to eat my dog!!! The other night one was sitting on my wifes Suburban rooftop. It was waiting for her to come out. I came out inside then two others flew off making for a total of 3. YIKES!!! |

| How scary! I would suggest you walk your dog on a leash or at least go out with them each time they go potty. I woudn't want them to get hurt... or eaten

Thor's Human Donating Member | There was an article on here last year about an owl that tried to carry off a 14 lb yorkie. So please be careful!

| How scary that must have been. I go out with mine all the time. There are coyotes, wolves and who knows what out there. I get nervous when it's late at night and I hear rustling in the bush. very scary

| Oh that's horrifying. I like the previously mentioned take your dog out on a leash or maybe you could set up not sure what they are called but like a dog run in your yard that has a cover so your little one can potty in peace. We have coyotes here. I here them howling every night, but have yet to see one. We also have hawks, but haven't seen one in my area this year.

| I take Abby out on a leash always!! I've seen hawks flying above us when we are out and I have seen 2 coyotes walking past our house. I never ever let her out off leash.

| Once I was out with willie, and we came across a falconry display in the park. They had an absolutely massive owl with them. It was tethered, thankfully. Willie was on his leash. But man, that owl looked at him like he was just an appetiser. Everywhere Willie moved to (he was nervous about it - quite rightly so) so di the owl's head. We got away from there pretty quickly! Didn't like the falconer calling my furbaby lunch! |

| That's why we use pads. 2 years ago we had a Maltese taken by on owl. There is nothing you can do once they have them, and it only takes a second. I would start using pads if it were me at least at night. Not worth the risk. |

| That is just horrible!! I am so sorry about your dog. Just 2 weeks ago a mother raccoon attacked my neighbor and her husband while they were walking their King Charles Spaniels. I get so nervous when I take Milo in the backyard to go potty after dark (always on a leash). |

| That makes me nervous because the forest is literally right behind my house. We have seen all kinds of animals such as deer, rabbits, raccoons, and I have even heard coyotes. I went to see what there was in the forest behind our house and we found a bone.

| My back yard is directly against the woods but surrounded by a 6 ft privacy fence. I'm told there are wild hogs and coyotes back there. I've never seen them but I do see deer, rabbits, armadillos, etc. I know the fence is no match against flying predators though. My dog Spike was a 10lb pom/chi and I never had a problem with anything trying to eat him thankfully. What a nightmare for you. Too bad there isn't some kind of owl repellant or scarecrow you could use. |

| I'm glad someone brought this up again. I think that some of the missing dogs posted on yorkietalk may have fallen victim to something big that flew out of a tree. Just because it is your turf doesn't mean it isn't something else's too and our dogs are helpless when seen as prey. I don't think we can ever be cautious enough. Thanks for reminding me. |

OMG this is my worst fear. We have an owl that lives in the tree but our dogs are not outside in the yard unless supervised and only in daytime. We have another bad predator bird though - A HAWK. I posted about this in general the other day. I saw it circling yesterday over the trees. You're right, it only takes a second, and mine have been confined to the porch and house only. They so want to go out and run in the yard but I told them that Mr. Hawk is there and it is out of the question. I would think the talons of these birds could kill or do major damage even if the bird released the dog.
