OMG this is my worst fear. We have an owl that lives in the tree but our dogs are not outside in the yard unless supervised and only in daytime. We have another bad predator bird though - A HAWK. I posted about this in general the other day. I saw it circling yesterday over the trees. You're right, it only takes a second, and mine have been confined to the porch and house only. They so want to go out and run in the yard but I told them that Mr. Hawk is there and it is out of the question.

I would think the talons of these birds could kill or do major damage even if the bird released the dog.
