I remember specifically posting in one of your old threads or posts, a few videos of graphic puppy mill videos, etc... and you're saying it still didn't click in? That doesn't make any sense. I know alot of others gave you a TON of info. So what makes your decision right and Mom2Kobes wrong?

Regardless, maybe she will realize the problem with buying from a pet store when this dog has a very high potential of becoming ill, or having a disease, or being full of parasites, or having temperament problems, etc.

But it's already done... and while I don't agree with it, I'm not gonna crucify her.
i don't feel like i'm crucifying her...i'm giving a strong opinion. even before i fully understood puppy mills...i still knew not to buy from a pet store EVER.

i bought from an old man who doesn't really know what he's doing. he's nice and sweet and he breeds dogs for fun and sells them at too cheap of prices to make people happy. he's not a reputable breeder, but he also is not a monster with thousands of bitches in kennels that he doesn't care for or give a good life to. sorry if you don't agree, but buying from an old man that prob. shouldn't be breeding dogs due to lack of knowledge and research is not the same thing as supporting a well known pet store that on national television was proven to purchase their pups from puppy mills and not just any puppy mill but some of the WORST in the country.

and her hearing someone say they were clearancing this dog to replace it with a new one and still not walking away from it...that's just wrong IMO.

and i do want to add to the OP. i know that i'm harsh and opinionated, but i never did say that i do wish you the best of luck with that little one. you have him and he really needs you now. it totally is a catch 22. it was like that with a shelter that i was trying to foster for. they PAY puppy mills to get the puppies out of there before something even worse happens to them. they have great intentions of saving those poor babies...but i quit helping them when i found out about this. no money should really ever be given to a puppy mill. EVER. it's so hard to turn away from saving all the babies everywhere that need rescued from a mill. there are a lot of them and the ones that find good homes are really lucky and blessed, but if we all go around buying from pet stores and mills in order to rescue one more baby from a bad home or life what are we doing but becoming just another buyer on their long waiting list of customers? it hard to say no...i didn't say no to Sadie and she's my WHOLE world, but it's not something i'd do again because now that i get it, i don't feel right about one penny of my money or a second of my time going to the puppy mills or pet stores. i won't buy from theri stores and i won't walk into them. i won't help a shelter that pays to get pups from a mill. it's not right and it's not going to stop this problem.

good luck with your baby. give him the best home he ever had. i hope he is well and has no health issues and lives a long and healthy life. please don't think i'm mean because i don't agree with your choice. i do want a good home for him and i'm glad you are giving him one, i just personally don't agree that petland has your hard earned money now...that's pretty much all.

I find this funny that it is coming from you of all people Rachel. You KNOWING bought Sadie even though many people here told you exactly what you were buying, where you were buying her from, and who you were buying her from. We gave you video's, links, information, facts, and the whole damn truth. I don't know how you can sit there and harshly give your new acquired strong opinion. You bought Sadie from that man even though you knew you shouldn't. You took her home way to early even though you knew you shouldn't. Now that "breeder" has replaced Sadie with not just one other puppy, but litters of puppies because people like you continue to buy from him because he's a "sweet old man".

That old man knows exactly what he is doing and he reeled you in, hook, line, and sinker. People who breed dogs for "fun" are BYB and mills. Sure its fun to breed puppies and its even more fun to make money off of them. what you did was the same exact thing that mom2kobe did no matter how you slice it.

To the OP - i am not going to say anything pertaining to what you did because you already know what you did was wrong. congrats on your "clearance puppy" and i hope you don't even up spending 20x the price of him on medical bills.

Brit and kalina, i'm not going to get upset with either of you about calling me a hypocrite, you are both 100% correct that i did the wrong thing when i bought Sadie. but you have to realize that even though i had a ton of people telling me not to and trying to teach me what i was doing and they were extremely HARSH, i didn't listen because at that time i didn't have my ears opened. i didn't want to hear it, i didn't want to learn it, and i didn't care what you had to say....after all the smoke cleared somehow and at some point it all set in and i finally got it. i think it took loving Sadie so much to make me understand how much i'd never want her to be that breeding bitch in those mills. i grew up in Missouri remember. it's so common here for BYB they are literally EVERYWHERE. i'd say about 1 in 10 people in my area have some breed of dogs that they sell and have pups from...there are dogs everyday being sold or given away due to a couple of farm dogs tying. it's almost like it's nothing to see puppies on the side of the road or at walmart for sale. thats every day life so NO i didn't get it no matter how harsh people were to me, it never sunk in because i had never in my life fallen in love with a dog on this level. now i get it, it makes sense, and i hate the type of people back home that breed dogs like that. people i saw all the time, people i grew up with and knew so well are back yard breeders and full fleged puppy mills...it's like the smoker who didn't realize how nasty their house smells inside...they live in it so they don't notice it...that's how blind i was.

so i'm sorry if my "newfound opinons" make me sound like a total hypocrite, but no i didn't get it back then, now that i do i promise that i will no stop trying to put a stop to these mills and petstores. i hate them with a passion, they make me sick to my stomach. the thought of Sadie being bred to death hurts SO BAD it literally makes me want to throw up. i cannot walk into pet land anymore like i used to before Sadie. i can't stand the little window cages. and how anyone can go in their and even LOOK at those awful conditions and those poor babies is beyond me, let alone walk in and BUY one supporting and giving money to that awful place.

they all need saved, everyone wants puppies in mills to have a home, but that's not the way it gets stopped. stopping them takes cutting them off financially so they cannot produce more dogs.

so that's my defense take it for what it's worth. i know i did wrong when i got Sadie and i regret supporting that old geezer all the time. do i think he's a horrible person, not really, do i think he should be breeding dogs NO WAY JOSE. but again, that old man is no different than my cousin back home breeding bird dogs in kennels...i grew up with it, didn't know it was wrong and most of my family and friends are of the mindset that dogs are just dogs and who cares. how hard do you think it is to change their minds? way worse than any amount of harsh posting on here.

I know that you obviously thought with your heart and not your mind. I wont walk in pet stores that sells dogs because I know those faces get to me. My kids want to go, but I tell them they have a pet store at home. LOL You know this was not a good decision, but what is done is done. I don't support your decision, but I do support you and I hope that you and you new puppy do very well. Hope to see pics soon. : )

I do also think that if I would be guilty of this, I would be a little less condescending when someone else does it. JMHO

No one is as zealous as the newly converted.

I do want to say, for people who don't already know - the problem with BYBs, even if they are raising their pups in reasonable conditions, is that they contribute to the horrific pet overpopulation problem in this country. Even if a BYB gets all their pups to homes, there is no certainty that the pups won't later be abondoned, or bred, and then the grandpups abandoned.

Well, I respect everyone's opinion, so I dont mind being told I was wrong and shouldn't have gotten him. Thank you to those of you that said with taste and maturity.

And to those of you that were rude, it was unneccassary but thankfully I dont let negativity into my life at all. Your words were not negative but were expressed in a negative manor with negative intent.

He's home and there isn't anything that i can do about it now, but just know that he will be given the BEST just like Kobe is! Even if he gets sick (which I'll preydoesn't happen) money isn't an issue when it comes to my kids. fur and skin!

I understand exactly what you felt. We all understand not supporting puppy mills and bybers. But, I probably would have done the same thing. When you have a love and compassion for these dogs, it's darn if you do and darn if you don't. At least this little guy went to a responsible pet owner.....

RachelandSadie, I'm so glad you have become an advocate for supporting good breeders. You are right that buying a dog in a pet store does continue the cycle, but in this case they weren't really making any money off the dog, and may have even ended up just giving it to the pound or worse. They probably get a tax deduction for "loss of inventory." They didn't make a dime on the pup, so in this case I think Mom2Kobe made the right choice.

When we are first leaning about an issue we tend to see everything in black and white, as you learn more you will see more shades of gray. It's probably best to not even go into stores like Petland, but maybe fate brought her there and I'm glad this little boy has found a new home. I hope her post is a warning to all potential breeders that even pet stores are having a hard time making money breeding dogs in today's economy.

I am glad you saved him and not someone with bad intentions. I know he will get the life all dogs deserve regardless of their origin.

Ericka,

If I found myself in the same situation, I cannot say I wouldn't have done the same thing. Yes, while it only continues the cycle, the poor puppy is not the one to blame. Given the alternative of the life that he would have possibly faced with those 20 year olds, I think following your heart was what was best for you.

In my opinion, those 20 year olds would have tired of the puppy once they realized the effort that it would have taken to take care of him and then what kind of life would that tiny baby would have? It would almost certainly have wound up very badly for the puppy.

Congrats, I wish you well with Kobe's new little brother. Have you thought of any names yet? "Chance" comes to mind to me.
