I almost never go into petland unless I have my kids, they talked me into going in there after TJ Maxx. So while in TJ Maxx I walk by a group of ppl in their early 20's talking about a 4 month old yorkie in the pet store for $480. And that if they pull money together they should get him, breed him and start making money. Maybe even get a female too down the line. As far as them let's just say I really embarrassed my kids going off on these youngsters.

So we go into petland and I'm now curious about the pup and don't want to see him end up with them. He's a cutie and 2 lbs @ 4 months, and the sales guy notices me looking and tells me that this morning he went from $480 to $180 because they need to make room for the new "shipment " on Monday (I almost slapped him). But how could I not get him at that price knowing that there are BYB dying to vet a pup and a price like that.

I hope you guys aren't too mad, and he is with my BFF until kobe is recovered from his neuter.

you did the one thing we have learned over and over on here not to ever do...you felt so sorry for the pup that might get picked up by a bad person that you bought a pet store puppy mill puppy when you blatenly knew that they were going to be filling his spot with another puppy. if they never sold him, they'd never have room for another one...you have commited the crime of all crimes...willingly and knowingly purchasing a puppy mills pet store pup to replace him with another one....OUCH how can i not say something. i know ur intentions and you meant well...but you did the wrong thing here IMHO.

Okay im not going to crucify you. you know you did less the perfect. so just keep a close eye on your new little guy and make sure he is okay god only knows what could be wrong with him.

A little harsh, in MY humble opinion.

We know it's wrong, and it's not the optimal thing to do. But I can assure you that, in her shoes, I would have done the same. That's why I simply don't go in places that sell puppies and kittens ... it removes the temptation to free a pup and give it a good home.

Mom2Kobe, I hope you have wonderful luck with the pup, that he'll be happy and healthy and best friends with Kobe.

We can never win at getting millers shut down as long as people continue buying mill dogs. This pup may cost you way more than you paid!

I know purchasing from a pet store is a no no.....but, sometimes our heart overrules our mind....I say, thanks for saving that precious baby from a life of breeding, and further litters from possibly serious health issues....You saved a lot of people and animals a lot of heart ache. I always say I wouldn't buy from a pet store, but never say never....I may catch a lot of grief for this post, but please don't criticize others for having a heart.

I could never purchase a puppy from a pet store after knowing all that I know about how terrible, disgusting and horrendous puppy mills are... so I don't totally disagree with you.

However, I think this was a little harsh, esp. considering you went against what everyone told you here on YT yourself and got your dog from a BYB anyways. So I really think you should understand of all people when you fall in love with a puppy that you probably should NOT be getting (because by purchasing from a BYB, you are also putting $$$ in their pockets and allowing them to breed more dogs). Sooo... I don't know, that comment just seemed a little hypocritcal because if I remember correctly, you were pretty pissed off at alot of people for telling you the truth about where your pup was coming from.

Mom2Kobe, congrats on your new pup. I stopped going into pet stores (luckily, the 2 close to me are closed down!:thumbup:) because it's too hard to resist. The puppies are innocent, but I would not put my money into the pockets of such nasty people. I even stopped bringing Jackson to his groomer because they sold puppies in the place and I did not want any of my $$$ going to such a thing.

You came here for support, and support you will receive. Good luck...he's one lucky fur baby.

people who support ASPCA have a heart, people who rescue dogs with health problems and support and love them through their expensive issues have a heart, people with dogs that have no home, came from a bad home, were purchased from a pet store and dumped when the bills got too high, those people have a heart....

i know i'm harsh, but supporting an evil pet store with any amount of money such as Pet Land is not having a heart...it's adding to the problem and they are just another puppy mill buyer. it doesn't matter if you think you are saving him or keeping other puppies from being bred, you bought a puppy mill puppy KNOWING that another one was coming soon to take it's place. that's not having a heart to me. have a heart and spare that poor breeding bitch stuck in a cage her entire life breeding the next puppy to be placed in the window that you just freed up again.

i know i did the wrong thing with Sadie and i got a lot of crap for it. NO ONE held back their harshness or unkind words to me when i did that and guess what i LEARNED my lesson and would never do that again...this is a person who apparently KNEW exactly what they just did and that they just supported a breeder filling up that spot again...they did it anyways. I didn't understand the weight of what i was doing until it was long overwith and then it finally clicked in. i didn't do something KNOWING full well what i was doing like this person did. so no i will not hold back my harshness on her anymore than any veteran held back theirs on me...sometimes that's what it takes to get the point across. i'm not going to support and rejoice with a person that willingly supports a puppy mill.

My issue isn't with buying from a pet store....I understand all the ramifications...my issue is with the the harsh criticism of the responses.

How do you know that Mom2Kobe is not in the same situation as you? Maybe she "knows" but doesn't "really" know. Like SO many people in the world, or here on YT. Alot of folks have heard it's bad to buy a dog from a pet store but don't know the extent of why it's SO bad.

I remember specifically posting in one of your old threads or posts, a few videos of graphic puppy mill videos, etc... and you're saying it still didn't click in? That doesn't make any sense. I know alot of others gave you a TON of info. So what makes your decision right and Mom2Kobes wrong?

Regardless, maybe she will realize the problem with buying from a pet store when this dog has a very high potential of becoming ill, or having a disease, or being full of parasites, or having temperament problems, etc.

But it's already done... and while I don't agree with it, I'm not gonna crucify her.

sure he's lucky...but what about his mama, or better yet the next puppy coming to pet land in his place's mama???

and what about the family that buys the puppy replacing him, when they realize their new baby puppy is really really sick and they don't have the money to take care of him.

or the shelter that he gets dumped on that is struggling to keep their doors open in this economy?

what about them....I'm glad this ONE puppy is saved, but the problem isn't rescuing one...it's stopping the production of more by the puppy mills filling those windows up.

And think it NEEDS to be stated and put out there. But unfortunately, the OP has already purchased a puppy.... so I'm just gonna give her answers and support as much as we can.

while i definitely understand the not buying puppy mill puppies, in the same since i had much rather see a responsible, compassionate adult get a baby like this than a group of kids that want to "pool their money and breed it". also, what happens to these puppy mill babies when they are never purchased? i can't possibly believe they keep them until chosen, after a certain age they must send them somewhere. it is a catch 22 situation.....while i COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND not supporting BYB and puppy mills, why must these little innocent babies suffer when someone feels moved to "save" one?

at the very least when someone is educated and informed, they have an idea what they maybe getting into. which is better than the non-informed spur of the moment "oh-let's-get-a-puppy" buyer who would eventually turn the baby over to a shelter because they don't want to deal with the issues. i didn't do my research and ended up purchasing two puppy mill babies from a local broker. when the realization of the type of person i was dealing with came to light, i shared with him what a low-life scumbag (self-censored as not to offend) i thought he was and report him to any and everyone i could. both had issues with one dying 4 months after we got her and the other...i wouldn't trade her or her health concerns (MVD) for ANYTHING in the world. I suggest BAT's for all furbabies with questionable breeding. but i am neurotic.
