No Longer a Member | ![]() Exactly, then there would be way less x-bred dogs in the pounds from failed attempts at making the "designer mutts". But, can't seem to keep people from trying to make money, unfortunatly it's usually a failure since they don't realize, mama dogs need a vet, and puppies need to go to the vet, and after all those bills they realize they're not going to make much if anything. |

| ![]() I just don't understand how anyone can think you mix non allergy breed with shedding breed = non shedder. That like thinking if I mix blonde and brown hair dye I must get blonde. Makes no sense.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() It is hard to understand but people have and always will 'give up' pets for reasons we don't understand. I am NOT defending this - but here is a spin on the problem - at least they took them to be adopted. We have a long stretch of road here in Houston (forget the name) where it's been on the news that it's a known dumping ground for pets. ![]() People drive there and just drop them on the street along with all sorts or trash ![]() It made me sick how many animals they've picked up in that particular area......and that's only ONE area - there are thousands of people who think nothing to abandon dogs (and cats) leaving them in the cruel world all alone how could anyone do this ? |

| ![]() I don't understand how anyone could let their pets go... I was actually asked a few days ago if I was "thinking of giving Oliver back to the rescue or pound" because I was expressing concern about his fear of men not seeming to get better as fast as I had hoped... I was STUNNED that someone would even ask me! No, I did not know he had a fear of men when I adopted him, but that doesn't change a darn thing! I made a life long commitment and I will see it through. I love him more than words can say, how could I give him up for his flaws - he still loves me, despite my MANY flaws. If you're not in it for the long haul no matter what, don't get the dog in the first place! Get a hamster. Far less work and far smaller commitment. Everyone gets caught up in the "cuteness" and forgets about the work and money it takes to successfully raise a dog. I'm actually taking both dogs over the my aunts house to help her convince my cousin NOT to get a dog... I give up a lot of my life to stay home with these 2... I work 40 hours a week and so when I am home, I'm home to be with them, I'm not out with friends doing stuff unless they can come too (and usually, they can't!). Too many people in this world seem to think it's ok to treat a living being like it's nothing... no wonder we have dogs who are afraid of people.. it's not their fault.. it's ours....

| ![]() That is sad, I get upset when my Yorkie doesn't want to be right next to me. When I take in a pet its like marriage "Till death do we part"

I disagree with not going out with frinds to stay at home with dogs. I feel guilty when I do leave the pets behind, but I still have a life. I just make sure that I exercise the crap out of Rizzo then put him up for the night so I can go out clubbing or bar hopping. If I'm going to be gone too long then I leave them (cat and dog) with my landlord's family. I know I'm lucky and not everyone has this kind of set up, but people don't have to give up their lives when they adopt a dog. | |

| ![]() When the people sold us my ChiCHi who by the way is a "chiweenie" a chihuahua dachshund cross they told us thy had to give her up because they did not have the money to feed her or get her spayed (she eats about 1 1/2 cups of food a day and they wear feeding her beneful as i talked to them they just kept saying "oh she is so lovey" "she will lick your face a thousand times a day" "she loves attention" "she needs to sit on your lap and just be held all day long" i feel they gave her up because they did not want to give her the attention she needed yes she is is a attention hog but it works out well for us because Gatsby wants to be free to do his own thing.

No Longer a Member | ![]() Someone just put an advertisement out for a german shepherd puppy that they need to give up because they son is allergic to it...uh...what were they thinking in the first place "What breed of dog sheds so much that it could cause someone without allergies to sneeze? GSD, perfect, thats what we'll get with our dog allergic son"? I'm actually going to stop by and pick her up, they said one week and then they're going to "release her to a pound or the streets of Naples" I'm not going to keep her, but I'll get her spayed and potty trained up so she can go to a good home...the nerve... |

I was in Houston last week and went to the SPCA to drop off some donations (in honor of Olliepop's birthday ![]() ![]() There was a woman in the intake surrendering a GORGEOUS German Sheppard that I'm sure will find a loving home, I don't know how they stay afloat with all that they take in, I wish I lived there, I'd volunteer in a heartbeat! (I'd also love to be a vigilante on that certain stretch of road :/)
