| ![]() i've had that problem with Logan but he's still a young pup so i'm not too worried about it. he was in mid chew when he started barking at me for having a bowl of raw carrots. i just tell him to go away. he'll wait a second or two just to see if i'll change my mind and then he'll trot on his way. my other dogs know the deal and a few of them go as far as to leave the room when i eat. most of them will turn their backs to me and lay down. the only thing that i enforce once they get older is that they are not allowed to be within an outstretched legs distance from me when i eat. that way i don't have to worry about guests having a whiny dog begging for food or jumping up on them. or if they drop food on the floor they don't have to worry about losing a finger to a scavenger puppy ![]() |

| ![]() No, Maxine does not, but she has her own chair at the Counter, and a special chair at the table. She Just lays there while we eat. Carlo hovers close by incase anything should inadvertantly fall. Last week we took 1/2 box of leftover pizza home and and set it on the counter. We both went upstairs forgetting about the Pizza. When we came down 2 minutes later, the box was on the floor, no Pizza, and Carlo was smiling. |

| ![]() I was very adamant about the no-begging thing with Tatum. My grandpa used to watch my poodle, Dax, during the day while I was working (we lived next door to him) and he would feed Dax and his poodle straight from the table on his lap. Very frustrating habit to break after that. With Tatum though she doesn't actually beg for food but when we are finished eating and still just sitting at the table talking or something, she'll sit by my chair and do her little low growl/rumble because she wants on my lap. I'll let her sit on my lap but she totally ignores my plate right in front of her. The best thing is to crate them while you're eating or totally ignore the begging behavior. Just giving in even once will set you back to square one.

| ![]() We have a house full of total beggers, even the cat. However, they know they have to sit or lay and be quiet in order to get a treat (typically a veggie). We've tried very hard not to get them used to table food but looking into their eyes usually does us in. We're weaklings and they have us totally wrapped around their paws! What can I say?
