Does your baby get jealous while you eat? :) I like to feed Taz 3 times a day. And usually when me and my boyfriend eat dinner, we prepare his food for dinner too. Well lately, Taz has been crying, barking, jumping on my leg, making weird and strange noises just to get my attention. I never feed him table food, and when I give him more of his food he usually doesn't eat it..its like he wants to eat what we eat. I think its so cute and funny that he throws a fit about it. Does any of your babies have jealousy issues when you eat? :) |
oh noooooooooooo! We nipped that early on. It can be very distracting when you have dinner guests. My Bella is great. She can sit in my lap when i eat like a sandwich on the couch and will never look at my food. My lil one is curious sometimes and she tries to sniff from like 3 feet away. She is so cute.. her lil nose just a twitchin. I change her attention and she usually lays down. Of course the lil still follows me everytime i go to the kitchen.. forever hopeful!! Bella doesnt bother to get up anymore:D |
I nipped it in the bud from day 1 with Raley. One of the reasons I have never liked indoor pets is because of begging. So, I always placed Raley in his kennel when we would sit down to eat. I only do that now if we have guests. However, he knows not to beg because he was not exposed to us eating, etc...maybe you could put your baby in a kennel or in another room with his food while you eat until he learns his behavior is not acceptable. Good luck to you!! |

Ahhh! Please give me a few tips on how to nip this in the butt. Of course its cute now, but when I have guest over I can see it getting distracting. |

He just started this behavior so I thought it was rather cute. But now I see it can become a problem. Thanks for the advice! |
No, this was never a big problem. We ignored Merlin when he started to act up and soon enough he got bored and would go play. It's only when we have dinner guests over or our "part time kid" that we have to remind THEM to leave the dog alone while we are eating....lol.;) |
Taz usually just whines and whimpers and does a little bit of barking while we eat. I guess I need to ignore him and come up with a solution so that it doesnt become a habit. Thanks guys! |
When we brought Zhoie home, at dinner time we always put her in her ex-pen. We did that until she was allowed to have full run of the house, meaning totally housebroken. She had a small bed in our dinning room and at dinner time she goes to her bed until we are finished. She hasn't had any type of human food, she it's like she doesn't even acknowledge it. I too, can sit on the couch eating chips or whatever and she doesn't even look at it nor attempt to smell or anything. My suggestion would be, anytime food is out, he needs to go to his safe place until you are done eating. Hope, this helps. |
I admit it, Jackson is a total beggar. Totally my fault, er... moreso my dads fault. Every time we visit my dads place, all 3 dogs get little pieces of food by my dad who just can't help himself. All of our dogs we've ever owned have all been beggars but oh well lol. It's Jackson's one major fault that I created so I can live with it. He's really good with the "leave it" command tho so it's easy to stop him. |
When we eat . we always ignore our 2 . It works well, they learn fast that begging will not work. |
Roxie is a total beggar too. I have a feeling her previous owner's gave her table food all the time, because she's been doing it since day one here. She will sit next to the table while we eat and just stare up at us with those big eyes. Sometimes, if she is feeling really bold, she will jump up on the bench next to me and look at me hopefully. It is a pathetic site really, but I try not to give in. On occasion, though, I will give her plain veggies or plain white rice from my plate...things I know she can have. |
Yes Im Having This Problem Very Much... |
Well last night for dinner, we tried something new..We tried placing him in his crate while we ate, and boy did that make him mad! He whimpered and whined for a little bit, but he eventually stopped. I will keep trying this to see if his behavior changes. Thanks a lot guys! |

i've had that problem with Logan but he's still a young pup so i'm not too worried about it. he was in mid chew when he started barking at me for having a bowl of raw carrots. i just tell him to go away. he'll wait a second or two just to see if i'll change my mind and then he'll trot on his way. my other dogs know the deal and a few of them go as far as to leave the room when i eat. most of them will turn their backs to me and lay down. the only thing that i enforce once they get older is that they are not allowed to be within an outstretched legs distance from me when i eat. that way i don't have to worry about guests having a whiny dog begging for food or jumping up on them. or if they drop food on the floor they don't have to worry about losing a finger to a scavenger puppy ;) |
