We've never been snubbed but I have had several owners be "testy". They seem to have a hair up their butt or something but I pretend to not notice. Most are pleasant and some warn me upfront that their baby is not sociable.

Consider it their loss that they didn't get to meet the fabulous Levi!

I am sure there can be many reasons but it wouldn't have taken much for her to say to you that he isn't good with other dogs or he is sick etc.

I have found that many people who take their dogs out in public want the dog to be noticed and complimented. That doesn't mean they want to share the limelight with another dog. LOL

I seldom take mine to the store because I have so many and we feel guilty just taking one or two but I need to do it more for socialization and meeting with a dog of like size would be great practice for my own.

While I wouldn't ever snub someone in this way, I will have to admit that I take precautions with Chloe when meeting other dogs or people and I imagine that may sometimes make me seem a little snobbish/over protective...especially if I pick her up before someone gets to us. Chloe is very unpredictable in how she will approach others, whether humans or animals. Sometimes she runs right up to folks and starts sniffing them. Other times, she shies away like she's frightened. Sometimes she's very aggressive with other dogs, sometimes she's submissive. There's just never any telling.

Also, you never know how the other person's dog will react to your dog. Perhaps the woman had had a bad experience and just avoids other dogs now. However...you'd think she wouldn't take her dog out in public if she felt that way! Regardless, she missed out on a chance to get to meet another precious Yorkie!

And honestly, if someone said "lets go see her" to their dog, I would probably walk away because they end up being the same people who when you tell them no say "its okay ,my dog LOVES dogs".
That was my original thought too, as my last pup was very nervous around other dogs and I wouldn't allow him to approach stranger-dogs in public. But this lady's yorkie was pulling towards Levi (and to me looked excited, like he wanted to play, not nervous or aggressive) and she pulled him the other way.

I just wish she had offered some sort of explanation. Instead, she just gave us a cold look and turned away. I would have been more understanding if she had said something "My dog doesn't play well with others," "He's been sick recently," or "We are in a hurry." Maybe if she even said hello, even from across the distance. But her manner was just completely rude.

Aww. We wouldn't have snubbed you! What an adorable little face! Some people are just caught up in their own little world. You just have to feel sorry that they have probably missed other opportunities at positive experiences because of their attitude. Or, maybe her pup is bad with other dogs, but in that case she could have offered an explanation instead of leaving you hanging

I guess I would not have taken this so personally. There are probably reasons why this woman did not respond.

We never know what may be going on in someone elses life and it may be too hard to even say hi at some difficult times in ones life.

Also, maybe her yorkie gets too overly excited or aggressive. So, if someone quickly avoids contact it could be to avoid confrontation or problems.

I guess I am one that never lets anything like this upset me.

Your little yorkie is so cute! I would have responded and said "hi". However, I may never allow my 2 puppies get too close to another dog. I am a overly protective Mommy I guess. And this could be because I had a bad experience with a puppy I had in the late 1970's when it met another dog. I almost lost my puppy from this incident. So, keep that in mind also that other dog owners may have similar experiences. Regardless of a dogs size, two small dogs can also hurt each other if one is more aggressive.

I guess I just wanted to share a little insight and experience I have had in the past to possibly explain why this woman may have avoided talking to you or acknowledging you and your yorkie.

If the yorkie was a puppy, maybe a vet has told her no contact with other dogs? But why take the yorkie to a pet store? Who knows.

If you want to approach a dog with yours, or even alone, its really best to ask first... that is appropriate dog etiquette.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, it may be more about their dog than your dog. They know their dog best and maybe it's just not into other dogs!

This is a good answer. Makes me ashamed of automatically assuming she was just being a jerk. Thanks for the reminder

Very true! I guess I was just disappointed for my little guy - he so badly wanted to be friends with her dog!

I'm with you Nancy. Still, if it were us, I'd have said something so the other person wasn't left hanging like that
Tuffy loves to meet others but we're also still trying to teach him not to bark at dogs we meet because it really tends to get both dogs wound up too much. So, if we DO see another Yorkie & he starts to bark we make sure to say something to the other owner to that effect & move on.
He's learning so much on a daily basis

Lol, we're the same way, we live by a park, and when we see another Yorkie we go running after the people, they probably think we're nuts though!

Perhaps the owner was having a bad day , and just did not want to socialize . It may have had more to do with her then any of the dogs . Or she could of been a snob too. You never know about strangers .... sorry that you were snubbed, if I had Suzi with me, she and I would love to have met you and Levi .

I know just what you mean. I can tell how much you love him. I always feel bad if I think someone I love feelings have been hurt. You would almost rather be hurt yourself than have it happen someone you love.

Don't feel bad, we were even snubbed by a HORSE at Petsmart. Hubby said "Daisy, Teddy look at the pony". To which the lady responded "It's a HORSE" and turned and rudely walked away. You haven't been snubbed until you have been snubbed by a HORSE at Petsmart. LOL
