| Thinking of getting a 2nd Yorkie I've mentioned this a few times here and there about thinking of getting another Yorkie. I have some questions, and I figure this is where I'll get the best answers. First off, Charlie is about 5 months old now. He's going to be on the bigger size. He was 7.5 at 12 weeks. His vet visit will be this week so I'll know more then, but at the last appointment the vet said he may be 15 or 20 pounds. Charlie has a perfect personality. He just goes with the flow. If you want to play, so does he. If you want to nap, so does he. He's just very easy to get along with. He also seems socialized pretty well. He loves my friend's dog when we have play dates. He loves all kids. He is not a fan of men. Dogs usually love my dad and while Charlie won't growl or anything at him, he also stays away from him; won't even go near him for a treat. He avoids all teenage boys (except my own) and other men. He bit my ex-husband (and it was not a friendly teething bit. And I found out last night he bit my son's friend's dad. THe dad just laughed. I realize I need to address this. and I will.) So the questions for getting a second yorkie or mix are: 1. Is there a better age to to do it? Would Charlie be more open now as a puppy or does it matter? 2. Should I get a male or a female for him (hahaha, I can hear the jokes now.) (Charlie is not neutered yet but will be at 6 months. 3. Does size matter? Since Charlie is on the bigger size, is it okay if I get one that's a bit smaller? I'm really looking for one as small as I can and still be healthy due to the severe and debilitating arthritis in my hands. I have trouble now picking up Charlie at a little over 8 pounds. 4. Do I keep them on the same schedule for feeding, etc.? When I feed them, would I put their bowls side by side or should I put them in separate rooms? 5. Same with sleeping. I don't crate. Should I get one big bed for them to share or should each have their own bed and they can decide themselves? Any other tips for adding a second? |

| Couple of questions I forgot!!! Should my second be a puppy or an older puppy or a mature dog? I've also thought about a rescue. (Though I think rescue organizations insist you have a fenced yard, and I don't. But I also don't take them out without a lease (even just to play in the yard with me, I still put the leash on.) Thanks! |

| Hi, My name is koolnani. I just got my 2nd yorkie, she is smaller then Eli and I adore her. It was the best decision to bring in a little sister for Eli. He seems so much happier. He sounds a lot like your big boy, Eli is very mellow and goes with the flow. I keep them on the same eating schedule, it makes life much easier. With 2 there is alot more work, just like having a secound child, but well worth it. I can't even image my life with out both of them. Good luck with your decision & God bless. |

| Thanks for the reply. I just "feel" like we should get another one. (Same way I "felt" we needed Charlie.) And I sort of feel like I did with kids ... one is often harder than two. With one you feel like you have to be constantly entertaining, but when you have 2 or more, they amuse themselves ... granted you have to break up the odd argument here and there! I think I'll start looking out for yorkies in my area. I know when the time is right, the right one will become available to me. In the meantime, I'll just keep learning! |

| Jackson's best little Yorkie friend is a 6lb girl Nala. He is 16lbs. They wrestle and get along great. Nala is usually on her back being submissive anyways, lol.

| I just recently got a little brother Bullet (13 weeks old, 2 lbs.) for Rio (15 months, 3 lbs.) and there are definitely pros and cons so far. Rio used to seem "bored" when she was an only child, sleeping a lot and only playing occasionally. Now with Bullet, she plays with him all the time and they are definitely entertaining to watch. Rio is very dog friendly so she accepted him pretty easily. She is also a very finicky eater, and now that Bullet is here, she seems to want to eat more, since Bullet has such a healthy appetite. The difficulty is trying to potty train and spend time with Bullet who needs soooooooo much supervision right now (we're at about a 50/50 pee and poop accident versus going outside) and I'm afraid Rio is getting jealous. She is a littley mopey and sad whenever I'm holding Bullet. Bullet is very affectionate and loving and wants to sleep on your lap or at least sleep next to you or at your feet. Rio is very much like a cat, she gives affection only on her terms and when she's done, she's done. She never liked to sleep on our lap or even near us. Yet now that Bullet wants to be all snuggly, she seems jealous even though she wouldn't want to do that herself! |

YT 500 Club Member | 1. Is there a better age to to do it? Would Charlie be more open now as a puppy or does it matter? Ide get one as soon as you can him being a puppy there more accepting to each other but you can get a puppy when your current dog is any age. Like ceaser says take them for a nice little walk together so he can get to know her on common ground befoe she invades his house 2. Should I get a male or a female for him (hahaha, I can hear the jokes now.) (Charlie is not neutered yet but will be at 6 months. As you can tell I vote for a girl 3. Since you do have a bigger boy I personally would be a little nervous having to small of a new baby its to easy to accidently hurt her but if he seems gentle it wouldnt be to much of an issue. I dont recommed anything under 5 lbs anyways there a bit more work 4. Do I keep them on the same schedule for feeding, etc.? When I feed them, would I put their bowls side by side or should I put them in separate rooms? Same time ide feed them by each other so they dont get food aggressive 5. Same with sleeping. I don't crate. Should I get one big bed for them to share or should each have their own bed and they can decide themselves? One big bed to share and some smaller beds so they can have alone time if they like Any other tips for adding a second?[/QUOTE]
