| Well, I've never had to deal with much marking or humping, really. Jackson was almost 7 months old when he was neutered... he will mark outside on walks and stuff where other dogs have been, but he still squats to pee. He also would hump a little stuffed teddy bear he had, but since he's been neutered, he doesn't really do it often anymore. Sometimes if he sees this certain teddy bear, he will, but he's never ever tried to hump another dog, or a person, or anything. It's just not something that's been a problem for me, so I really don't have first hand advice for you. I know marking can be stopped/prevented by doing the whole potty training routine all over again. Do not let him loose in you house, keep him in an expen, or crate, etc, and make a routine for him. Every time he goes outdoors, praise and treat like crazy. Don't let him out of your sight, watch him 24/7. The moment you see him leg lifting, clap your hands, or make any noise, and say 'ah-ah!' or whatever. Teach him it's a no-no. Humping can be stopped the same way. Whenever he does it, just tell him no and take the object away. Congrats on Bentley!

| There were a few suggestions to help temporarily stem the marking on your thread from last night. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...e-bentley.html Has he been neutered? I don't know that anything will stop them from marking once they start. Neutering may help some. BB's will help, too.

| Have you ordered belly bands yet? That's where I would start. They're not that different from girls, so you don't need a step by step walk through. Neutering and training will help with a few behavioral modifications. Kaji was 12 months old when he came home and he was a marker and a humper. All gone! But you need to be vigilant and train him well.

| okay we ordered our belly bands and i'm using a soft E collar and a maxi pad to help out until they arrive. he's really such a sweet guy. i just get nervous that i don't know what i'm doing and i also worry once again about the ol' folks. remember when we brought Sadie home they swore she'd never be in their house. they love her so much. especially my dad. i just worry they won't adjust to "two" in the house and "two" to love and play with. i sure hope that they do because i want him to stay. he's fitting in well. i guess i'll have to learn also that having two dogs means that we run around less and stay home more or else we prob. have to board them at my work. i doubt family will ever offer to watch two of them. just having a lot of thoughts and i am so back and forth with my emotions. i cried today because i just don't know if this is the right thing or not and i'm scared of making a bad choice. does anyone else have these feelings when they first got their second dog or adopted one? |

| I was reading this and thought I'd post it for you: 1. HOUSETRAINING a. Almost all males who are not neutered will mark territory by peeing on things. This tendency is very hard [not impossible but much harder] to correct while they are intact. Once he is neutered it will take several weeks to months for his hormone levels to decrease to where he does not have those "urges." However, that situation should not prevent you from starting housetraining now. Westie Rescue USA - "Ask Cynthia"- Westie House Training

| did i never mention the he's neutered before? he was neutered before we got him, but it's only prob. been less than a week since it was done. so maybe the marking/humping is from that testosterone still flowing. also he hasn't humped tonight at all and also hasn't lifted a leg to pee in the house either....here's to hoping |

| he may have had some training but he's sure not 100% according to the foster parents. his history is something along the lines of two women who were dating and bought him from a breeder. he has APRI papers so i may have to look her up sometime on the "bad" list anyways, these women split up and dumped him off at the groomers inside a vet's office. the vet didn't want him to go home with just anyone so he put him with Westie Rescue and that's where he's been for a week with his foster mom and dad. i just got his records today though, he has a man and woman listed as his parents on his chart from the old vet in Springfield, MO. so i wonder how many families he really lived with before us. at least three i think. anyways. he's a good guy. very mild tempered, sweet, trusting, and eager to meet and be with people and other dogs. he's actually got a much more tame personality than Sadie, so i'm hoping they will be good for each other, she can rile him up and he can calm her down. anyways. time for DH to come home and get us all off to bed. one more day of work and then it's play with pups all day Sat. btw. our 1 year anniversary is Sunday |

| Darn! I missed his pics until you attached the link. He's a cutie and they look good together. I'll bet they will quickly become the best of friends and I'm sure she loves company just as much as Bentley will love having her around.
