| Politely do so http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-dog-park.html This is the SAME question that I have been pondering!! SO MANY TIMES people pick my dog up WITHOUT asking and I get SO ANGRY. The other day, a little girl picked Emma (3 lbs) up WITHOUT asking and ALMOST dropped her when I asked her to put her down! I was soo mad, but then I didn't know how to react?!? Today, this lady sitting picked Emma up and started taking pictures of her and Emma with her Iphone! These incidents are never ending!! Now, I'd like to ask what would be a polite way to tell someone who has picked Emma up to put her down?? I don't want drama. Emma is not always near me because I want her to explore and sometimes it's too late when I get there, she's already picked up! Also, how to politely tell people to not pick my dog up?? I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE IT! But, I don't want to seem snobby or anything. Once, there was a little girl who was really rough with other dogs came up to Emma and wanted to pick her up. I asked her not to THREE times and she STILL picked her up! Her parents saw what happened and didn't even apologize, they just walked away pulling the dog away. I kept keep this issue in, but now it needs a solution or I will have enemies at the dog parks

| "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." - -- Winston Churchill one of my favorite quotes.... seriously, in a perfect world, we could always be nice, but it's not a perfect world. as a mother of two young children - it amazes me when i hear stories like this of parents letting their kids do things like this. i've also had kids kick the back of my seat at a restaurant for an entire hour while the parents said nothing - some people are just ignorant and have no business reproducing. just say NO! if the parents aren't going to speak up to their own kids then they definitely aren't going to say anything to you! i've been in situations where other kids were doing inappropriate things to my own children, and after waiting for the parents to do something, i would speak up and say, "NO, you can't do that. that's not nice." stand your ground cus nobody else will do it for you! in my opinion, THEY are the ones not being polite so don't worry yourself with returning the favor! |

| There's a little girl in my neighborhood who would pick up Roxie every time we walked past her. Since her mother didn't seem to be paying attention, I finally had to tell her nicely to please not pick Roxie up. I can't imagine an adult picking up someone else's dog without asking! What is wrong with people?

| I totally agree....you would not walk up to a baby carriage and take the baby out and pick it up without asking permission from the mother same respect issue here. I think people should ask to pet my animal. Not all dogs like all people. If they picked up my animal and hurt him..then we would have a situation. Rose and Levi

I am sure these kids only want to hug and kiss and are so taking with your baby, but as a mom she should step in and stop it and always ask if it is ok to pet any animal/ I don't know people are strange I guess. I think simple manners are the first thing most people should teach their children, I did. | |

| Get some little T Shirts made up that say things like: Hands Off! or I Bite! or Killer or I Pee When Petted or Beware Poopy Feet or My Mommy Bites or My Daddy's a Biker Dude ...etc. If the kids can't read, the parents usually can and it may be enough to propel them into action!

| I would rather make some enemies. I am sorry but nobody touches my dogs without my permission. I have a little male that is just so trusting and just flops in your arms and if you do not know this he could easily be dropped and get seriously hurt. |

| I try to say something before they actually pick them up, or just pick them up my self if someone is approaching. usually "No" will get peoples attention pretty quickly if they are reaching for one of my dogs. "He/She bites" usually keeps them away too

| This made me think about something. Before I ever owned a yorkie, I was under the assumption they were snappy biting dogs. Tee Hee. Do you think that rumor came about because so many owners told people, "HE BITES!"

| I usually don't have this problem with Uni when we are out bc she is so loud, I'm sure she is annoying people. (One time at a park we stopped to talk to some people and Uni was barking her head off to keep walking, and some kids from the nearby playground were yelling at her to shut up!) I do however, have this problem at the shop. Moms "window shopping" not paying attention to their kids. Little ones like 4 or 5 yrs old who don't know how to hold a dog, or a 3 yr old (I think about that age) picked up Uni by her front paws. What if Uni was heavier? That would have really hurt her, maybe even dislocate a shoulder. Another one dropped her, but luckily Uni is part cat, so no harm done. But of course the parent is never paying attention to their own kid. And i can't be flat out rude and yell no at them. So I have to be that fake sweetness that I hate and go 'oh no sweetie you can't pick her up like that' to finally get the parents attention so they can go, Hey no don't touch the dog, then they go right back to ignoring their kid.

I love kids and try to teach them not all dogs want to be held by people they don't know edited to add - most of the time mine act like little swimmers to get back to me anyway and it's pretty obvious they don't want strangers holding them

Hobby lobby has little shirts for dogs and other iron stuff, but at my hobby lobby its by the iron on decals for clothing. I made one that said "bad fur day" for my cairn terrier! I went out today with my Karma, I ended up just carrying her the whole time cause there were so many kids and people, one kid came running up to pet her and her mom grabbed her by her hair! lol stopped her cold and made her go back adn walk up slowly not to scare the dog and then told her to ask me if she could pet her! I giggled and said thank you lol a little extreme to some sure, but hey sometimes its how you get through to them.
