This is the SAME question that I have been pondering!! SO MANY TIMES people pick my dog up WITHOUT asking and I get SO ANGRY. The other day, a little girl picked Emma (3 lbs) up WITHOUT asking and ALMOST dropped her when I asked her to put her down! I was soo mad, but then I didn't know how to react?!? Today, this lady sitting picked Emma up and started taking pictures of her and Emma with her Iphone! These incidents are never ending!!

Now, I'd like to ask what would be a polite way to tell someone who has picked Emma up to put her down?? I don't want drama. Emma is not always near me because I want her to explore and sometimes it's too late when I get there, she's already picked up!

Also, how to politely tell people to not pick my dog up?? I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE IT! But, I don't want to seem snobby or anything. Once, there was a little girl who was really rough with other dogs came up to Emma and wanted to pick her up. I asked her not to THREE times and she STILL picked her up! Her parents saw what happened and didn't even apologize, they just walked away pulling the dog away.

I kept keep this issue in, but now it needs a solution or I will have enemies at the dog parks
When I see a small child (or adult) I let them ask questions or pet them - but if they want to pick mine up I pick them up myself and just tell them they don't like it - I just explain they wiggle and it's too easy to drop them - then I let them pet them while I hold them - it gets tricky with 2 but works for me

I love kids and try to teach them not all dogs want to be held by people they don't know

edited to add - most of the time mine act like little swimmers to get back to me anyway and it's pretty obvious they don't want strangers holding them
