YT Addict | I feel like venting… Now that it is just starting to warm up I have spend every minute I can outside with my little lady. Our favorite thing to do is walk downtown to sit and have a picnic at the Waterfront Park. I bring a turkey sandwich and a good book, Lula brings her bully stick. We could sit at the Waterfront Park for hours, and usually do. As always Miss Lula-Mae Famous gets tons of attention due to her tiny size. She doesn’t seem to care why people are gawking or rushing over to say hello (she just eats it up) me on the other hand.... Just as soon as we hit any populated area, the questions start… “Is she full grown?” “Where did you get her?” “How much was she” “Is she one of those ‘tea cups?’” …. Arg! Do they ever stop to think that the woman sitting quietly with her dog reading a book just might be enjoying sitting QUIETLY with her dog!? Maybe I don’t feel like disclosing how much I spent on my dog to a total stranger? I don’t like calling my dog a ‘tea cup’ but I don’t want to have to tell each and every person the breed specifics of Yorkshire Terriers every time some miss-informed person asks about them. I have found myself replying “yep” just so I don’t have to talk to some gawker for 20 minutes or so. If your so curious about the breed, Google it! Some teenage girl plopped her s**tzu puppy next to my Lula to say "hi" because “they are the same size!!! EEEK!” ...(arg!), then proceeded to tell me that the 2 month old gremlin growling at my little lady was a ‘tea cup’ and wasn’t going to get any bigger. I just wanted to shake her and scream in her face that 2 month old puppies grow. Babies grow. Your 'breeder' lied to you. This dog will not be 3 pounds forever, you wasted your money on a lie, and I hope to god you don’t love it less when it does grow up. Triple Arg! Man, I really got the wrong dog for a person who doesn’t really like people all that much. I even started telling little children that bolt over with their little sticky man-handling mitts that my dog bites in hope they will stop trying to pick her up. *sigh* I am really considering training her to bit on comand.. prehaps with a trigger like "please ask first" then CHOP! fingers gone! just the thought of it makes me all warm and happy. On a good note, Lula did make a new friend; a giant Mastiff. As soon as Lula is in his sight he will drop down as low to the ground as he can so she can lick his face. Yorkies really are fearless little devils.

Lol, I like the way you vent, your post is really funny, and so true. I use to take Joey to any stores that would allow it, but a 5-minute trip turned into a 30-minute trip because of all the comments. I've had people even stop me and show me all their pictures of their yorkies on their cell phones! Of course, I have to tell them about Yorkietalk when they do that! Glad Lula made a new friend; I would just love to see a picture of Lula licking the Mastiff's face!

Have you had people stop you and ask to take a picture of your dog with their cell phone? How creepy is that!? That is the one occasion where I don’t care if I may seem rude. I am absolutely not letting a stranger message my dogs pic to "some friend". I don’t care how innocent it may be it creeps me out big time!

| Maybe you need to sit further away from the walking path so there are not so many visits. I can agree what it would get very frustrating to have so many people disturbing your quiet time.

| This was a great vent. I also get irritated with people that think they need to pet Bella right on top of her head thereby knocking out her top knot...ugh!! Thank you!

| LOL!!! I hear ya! I don't want to turn into a rude person in public places but sometimes the obnoxious questions are irritating and I have to bite my tongue and count 100 backwards before answering.

| I can relate to the "teacup" questions. Elliott is 5 months old and (I think) the runt of the litter; he's very small compared to other Yorkies of around the same age. Just today, I had a woman ask me if he was a teacup. I don't mind talking about my guy, but sometimes I just want to hang out with him and not the general public. |

| I understand your frustration I go through it often with Bailey and sometimes Layla too. But why are you so ANGRY and Bitter? You want to teach your dog to Bite on command? That seems like a little much. You should be flattered that so many people want to see your baby. I understand wanting to have your piece and quiet but people just melt over our little babies, can you blame them? When children come up and think they are just going to touch my little Bailey Im usually patient and tell them that they cant pick her up but they can pet her. Bailey loves all the attention, it isnt a bad thing for your baby to meet new people. If people are really bothering you keep her on her leash and keep her right next to you in your lap. If people come up to you then kindly tell them she isnt feeling well today and dosnt want to be disturbed. There are nicer ways to go about it then teaching your dog to bite on command...Just remember its flattery... I must admit, the first time I saw all the yorkies at a dog show getting groomed with their gorgeous flowing coats I kinda lost my manners, I couldnt stop talking to the lady grooming them about my babies and how gorgeous hers were Im lucky she was kind and patient with me and not rude and snappy.....

| omg! I thought I was the only one... I cant stand when people stop me every few steps and want to touch my dog, talk about my dog, MY DOG, MY DOG!!!!! I have stopped taking them certain places because it is so annoying. I get the teacup comment a lot with Chloe... she is almost 5 pounds... I just answer "Nope, shes just a Yorkie!"

YT 500 Club Member | The t-cup question does annoy me but if people want to say hello to my two and pet them I dont mind so long as they dont pick them up, though there was one occassion I was glad some-one did, I was walking them off lead and Rosie was still in that everything was more intresting than paying attention to her mom. We met and walked a little while with a lovely couple with two cavalier king charles, one of whom was tiny for the breed. Comming the other way were some people with 3 staffies, I wasn'y close enough to grab Rosie if she spotted them first and wanted to say hello,[ she was playing with her new friend], but the guy was, he crouched down and scooped her onto his lap along with his smaller dog. Very sweet of him I thought. I see it as an adnantage that so many know my two and who they belong to, less likeley some-one could get away with taking them. |

| I would say since this is a vent post we get to vent whether it makes complete emotional sense or not. I took the biting as an effort at humor which I found quite funny. I work...a lot. I value and covet my quiet times. I love nature so sometimes my quiet times are at the local lake where there are other visitors. My personal understanding is that when I see someone with a book for reading, they are there to commune with their book and not with me. I think it's a courtesy issue. So I don't think the OP is necessarily bitter and angry, but rather coveting her private time with her pup and her book, something I completely understand.
