I would say since this is a vent post we get to vent whether it makes complete emotional sense or not. I took the biting as an effort at humor which I found quite funny. I work...a lot. I value and covet my quiet times. I love nature so sometimes my quiet times are at the local lake where there are other visitors. My personal understanding is that when I see someone with a book for reading, they are there to commune with their book and not with me. I think it's a courtesy issue. So I don't think the OP is necessarily bitter and angry, but rather coveting her private time with her pup and her book, something I completely understand.
