Why doesn't this country get more DOG FRIENDLY???

Easy...I'm not offended by my dogs. I'm not offended by most dogs I meet. But that doesn't mean I like EVERY dog I run across. Just because I don't have a desire to drag one of mine with me every time I leave the house doesn't mean I don't love and enjoy my pooches just as much as the next person.
Everyone in America is not a "dog lover" like we all are--some people have an extreme fear of them, some people are highly allergic, some dogs are not well behaved or vaccinated or well groomed. I don't think the general public should have to be around other people's pets everywhere they go.

no that comment shows that a lot of people disgust me far more than most dogs do and that the reasons for not allowing dogs if tables were turned would keep a lot of people out as well because many people fit the same qualities as those that are excuses for not allowing dogs. that doesn't mean dogs should be written into the constitution, that just means i don't really like to be around a lot of people that i'm forced to be around in public. that's all.

I understand that YOU see it that way--because it would make YOUR life easier. The majority of American's doesn't feel that way. What you see as a convenience would be a nuisance or hassle for others.

and everyone in America is also not a smoker and shouldn't have to be around other people's second hand smoke everywhere they go, but most of the time we do unless we are lucky enough to live in a smoking ban area or a public place that doesn't allow smoking anymore.

yes and that's why i said what i said there. it would be nice, and i'm admitting it most likely will never happen, but a girl can dream. so why go on and argue with me after i've pretty much agreed with you that no we most likely will not get to bring pets everywhere but wouldn't it be nice if we could.

This isn't a thread about people disgusting other people, which I can totally relate to. However, we are talking about how having all places dog friendly would effect others. There are plenty of people in the world who are not pleasant to be around, but they are still people, who in the U.S., have rights. Dogs do not have those same rights, as they are animals. If they allowed DOGS into all places, then people would start saying I want to take my CATS everywhere, and then I want to take my SNAKE everywhere! Where would it end from there? JMHO!

I cracked up when I read this comment. Not because of the comment itself, but because it reminded me of a skit on the Chris Rock Show. He had a character known as 'the scared white dude' and no matter what the topic was, everything freaked him out and it always concluded with him having a breakdown and just screaming, "If everyone else could just GO IN when I leave my house, the world would be perfect."

People are not allergic to (replacing the word fat here as i said HUGE in my post and not fat) unruly and unclean people. And they are PEOPLE, not animals. People and animals do not have the same rights. Places are able to refuse business to whomever they choose, so if someone is out of control, they can be asked to leave. I would hope someone wouldn't be asked to leave because they are "huge".

Aide dogs do just that -- they aide. As a pet owner, we do not have the same rights as a service dog handler. That is not comparable. Just because we "want" our dogs there, there is no justification for them to be with us at all times. Unless they are therapy, service or emotional assistance dogs, they do not need to accompany their owner into all places, especially ones where food are served.

Just my two cents.

Personally I think it is a little unhealthy to think in that manner. Dogs are NOT babies. They are two different things. It's okay to refer to a dog as your baby and spoil them. Maybe because I'm a mom it's different but I find it a bit disturbing that you think they shouldnt be treated any different then children.

But the real world doesn't work that way. Not everyone - stores, friends or relatives - will feel the same way about Sadie as you do and she may not be welcome.

Bottomline, as much as we love our pets, at times they can be very inconvenient. It's part of the total package.

Wow! I don't think you should have to either. I'm kind of shocked: that it's not prohibited in more places where you are. It's mostly off limits everywhere here--within X number of feet from entrances to any public buildings, only in the bar section of restaurants...

what about people that cannot have children and to them their dogs are the only living thing close enough to be their children. should they not be able to enjoy life and/or vacations because they can't bring the only living thing that they enjoy and consider theirs to nurture and care for?

and to wrap up this whole thread...i wouldn't trade a minute of the frustration and the rearranging of my plans for Sadie. she's worth it all, and i guess maybe that's what got me mad enough to post this thread. my own parents don't get it, and it's very upsetting at times. they had a beautiful dog, but she was never in the house, always in an outside kennel. and a neighbor fed her when they were on vacation. they don't understand the depth of love for an inside "small" dog and they don't understand the costs and the scaryness of boarding a small dog that's more like a member of family than a dog.

They have made wonderful sites like this: PetFriendlyHotels.com - Pet Friendly Hotel & Dog Friendly Accommodation Guide to find a place you can take your pup. There are many cities like Key West and San Fransisco that are pet friendly. Maybe you can go on vacation some place like that?
