| ![]() I had to leave our business and wasnt home for the night and couldn't respond to any of theses post my blackberry wouldn't let me for some reason. sorry. i thank every one for their help and advise and im going to for sure have alot of questions to ask this lady when she calls me back on Monday. We have our own business and in order to have to puppy with me at all times like i want i need the puppy to stay small. she comes with a 4 year health guarantee and i was told by her when they were born she was to tiny to keep for breeding that's why she was selling her.they were going to keep her for 8- 11 weeks longer to make sure she was healthy and i think she had been 4 weeks at point. My fiance has done pretty well all the talking to them as my new puppy was a huge surprise. we put down 500$ deposit(non refundable) and are to pay the rest when we pick her up. She says shes done this for 20 years and they breed may types of dogs. she talked to my fiance on the phone about so many things and asked may questions about the puppy being safe and our house etc. she gave us a hole bunch of info about the puppy and how to take care of her and signs of sickness. i figured we had found someone who knew what she was doing? maybe im wrong

| ![]() Unfortunately when someone gets it stuck in their head they don't want to listen to reason. During my contemplation of getting a yorkie was when I found YT. My very first post I think I mentioned "teacup" and a few people explained the same things mentioned above. So ... I started doing my homework. While doing my homework, I also went to various puppy stores and email/called several "breeders" just to test these theories. A girl in a "couture pet shop" showed me a "dwarf" which was something I hadn't heard of yet. It's funny the things people will say to try and entice you. I was also constantly researching online and even went as far to talk to a pet consultant (who was also a vet) for two hours. And what I found of course was that you all were correct. I understand that a lot of people, me included, like little itty bitty. Who wouldn't? They're so dang cute!! However, having them be unhealthy and living a sickly short life isn't worth stupid size. I will always be VERY grateful for you guys for steering me in the right direction. Lucy is on track to be approx five pounds. However, if she gets to be bigger it just means there is more of her to love! I love my little girl and am SO THANKFUL I did the RIGHT thing. To the original poster, I hope you do the right thing. For you and your potential baby. Thanks for reading! KK |

| ![]() I have another dog, jake- my yorkie poo. he was supposed to be 5 pounds and now weights about 8 or 9. he isn't big and i love him the same as i would a very tiny dog. but having him in a office with me all day makes it harder bc it isn't that big i would feel horrible having him contained here, that's why he is with my parents all day . i wasn't looking for one that was that small 4 pounds or 5 was fine. I of course don't want to put almost 2000 into a puppy to have her sick, in pain and die shortly after getting her. besides the amount of money im paying for her that's horrible to have her go threw, im not a monster and love dogs very much. like i said before i wasnt able to respond back to the other post and very thankful for all of the people who did post and give info.

| ![]() Oh honey, I don't think anyone thinks you're a monster. Like I said, I had a lot of the same questions. I wanted a very small one for similar reasons. People are just concerned for you and your new baby, that's all ![]() You and I must have been posting around the same time because your latest wasn't there when I posted. Just make sure you grill that breeder!! ![]() Good luck! xxoo KK |

Sorry it just irks me a bit each time I see you writing that. I mean I agree with you 100% but it just irks me when you say you didn't know about bad breeders and learned the hard way, you were made fully aware about the breeder you were getting a pup from and decided to ignore all warnings. Sorry not trying to start anything with you but it is just something that gets under my skin a bit . ![]()

I've got two Zach about 4.7 lbs and Lola 5ish lbs. Zach is well bred, very sturdy and compact little fella. They look the exact same size but Lola is much more thinner and "small bones". She has a hunched back and was not very well bred. I love them the same, they are both my babies but definitely would take the time to find a responsible breeder. Lola on the left and Zach is on the right.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() people already posted advice so all I'll add is that 1 lb is very VERY tiny - and after being here for years now - I've seen so much heartbreak for people who wanted super small yorkies and ended up dealing with some pretty serious health issues...When a puppy is this tiny - it's a 24/7 job, so be ready ... This is NOT directed to you, (the original poster) - but I wish people would try to put health before size....we all love small dogs but size shouldn't be a deciding factor when buying a new puppy - an extra few pounds on any dog is not that big a deal .... added note - if this breeder can't tell you the age of the puppy ...that'a a big red flag IMO...... Good luck with your new puppy.... |

Unless I missed it, have you visited with this breeder or just sent money? It's ALWAYS advised to visit in person whenever possible to see the puppies, the parents, etc.. Again if they are breeding many different breeds, that just screams puppy mill!

| ![]() OK, now that I see that the OP is back... I'm assuming that you didn't visit the breeder's home before you sent off that $500 (at least, that's what I get from your posts)? And now it's a non-refundable as well? This whole situation is bad, it screams puppy mill and she suckered you into it. There is no way a breeder can give you an exact estimated weight on a dog, ever. They can only guess as to "bigger" or "smaller", and just like red98vett said, you should want a healthy pup and not care so much about the size. My friend has a 7 lb yorkie and he looks so tiny! My Sasha is 3 lbs (and thankfully healthy!!), but I wasn't at all looking for a tiny puppy, that's just how she came! I really hope that you do your research before you get this pup, and maybe try to get your money back somehow...

YT Addict | ![]() Ok, so I am about to visit my breeder for the first time tomorrow. I have second pick of three males AKC. The parents are both five lbs with championship backgrounds in their lineage. I have the choice of taking the smallest (which was 2.5 oz at birth and weighs 8 oz now at four weeks) or the other male which was 3 oz at birth but 11.8 oz now. She doesn't breed for size. Small home breeder, family raised. She had five pups two females, three males ranging from 2.5 oz to 4.5 oz at birth. She told me the first pick did not choose the smallest and that I can have him if I want. I will be checking the two that I have to pick from and make my choice based on health, personality, etc. In looking back through her female's previous litters, I notice she seems to throw one or two out that are on the small side. Her pups range in the four to six lb range at maturity. In this case, I feel confident that the small one will still be healthy and not a high risk. I would like your expert advice-let me know what you think. Thanks in advance |
