Are you serious?? A reputable breeder would never sell such a small baby of that size!! Only a "Greeder" would do that!! And I sure as heck would not be picking that baby up at 1 pound!! There are sooo many things that can go wrong.

Has this "breeder" spent many hours educating you on hypothermia and hypoglycemic events?? At 1 pound or less that baby cannot even maintain its own body temperature let alone blood sugar levels. You need to plan on feeding that baby at least every 6 hours round the clock. Keep him/her away from all drafts and have an extra heating ready, blankets and sweaters too. I hope you are going to have that baby with you at ALL times...
Please do your self a favor and listen to the people on here and check in to these "tinies" as they crash and burn very quickly.

Default my axel is

my axel is a little over 4 lbs he is 6 months old....I hope you read the thread here they are so fragile at that age and that weight so good luck. 5 lbs is not even big so I would reconsider, my guy will be 5 or 6 lbs and is a great little size I take him everywhere! and best of all he is healthy.

Exactly!! When you buy from these types of breeders that breed the poor yorkies super small they can come with all types of health conditions. Please reconsider getting a puppy from this breeder. Again..puppies should be 12+ weeks before you pick them up and there is no such thing as a "teacup" yorkie as mentioned early. I attached a pic of my little Rafa who is 6 months and 4lbs exactly.

I am so agreeing with everyone else on here! How much did you pay? How old is the pup? Where did you find this breeder? How small of a pup were you wanting? My Sasha is 3 lbs and teeny tiny, but that's not what I was looking for. I don't care if she grows to 7 lbs (she's 6 months now) she would still be small. You have to remember that so many small breed yorkies (under 2 lbs) have many health problems. Your breeder should do what she does for the love of the breed, not to make a buck and sell you a pup that will be sick all of it's life. Do your homework, and I would get your money back by any means neccesary.

red flags going up here. not only should you not trust the breeder having not known the size of the puppy or the age, but you should not want a TINY dog as you have said that you do. my advice would be to go to your local library and read up on yorkshire terriers a bit more before you decide to bring one into your life. when you are reading be sure to research the breed standard and how to select a reputable and responsible breeder!! i did the yorkie research myself, but until YT didn't understand much about bad breeders! it's ok to not know at first, but we're happy to teach you more about what you should look for in a pup and breeder so stick around and ask anything you would like from us. a lot of people on here made the same mistake i did of getting a dog from a bad breeder and have learned the hard way why we shouldn't have done so!!! hope we can help you to not make that mistake and also hope that you can get your money back from this breeder because already i can tell you that they do not sound responsible!!

You have been giving some great advice here. I hope that you have been doing research and find a healthy baby. 5lbs may sound big but once you see one that size they are quite small. I wish you the best of luck

For the original poster, It is advisable not to intentionally seek out a dog that is under 5lbs at the very least, my Bailey is 3 and a half pounds and I am constantly watching him, afraid that he may hurt himself, he has already been to the vet a couple of times because of his size, the last time just a few days ago, he injured himself, I thought I was going to lose him! Believe me it is very stressful, 5lbs is still very tiny!

hey hun, I'm sure you've heard it a bunch already, but the word "teacup" is just a marketing ploy that back yard breeders and puppy mills will use to sell their smaller dogs at higher prices. My Tank is 4 lbs 1 oz, and is the one with the white on his head in the pictures in my album.
