| My vet told me to wait till prudence is a year old.She is 7 months old and 3 and a half pound so she will have had 1 heat before she gets spade.Just go with what you feel is right.Im trusting my vet as she has been my vet for 12 + years.

| I know they can be done at 7 months, I wonder why your Vet wants to wait. There must be a good reason. I would let them know you don't want her to go into heat, and see what they say.

| We did annie at 7 months. I wanted to wait long enough for her adult teeth to come out give her baby teeth a chance to fall out on their own if they were going to, if not we could kill to birds with one stone |

| If you trust your vet and I sure he/she gave you a reason for waiting. Roxie was spayed at 6 1/2 months and came through it with wonderful results, but she is a little chunky monkey at 6lbs now at 9 1/2 months old. Back then she was just a tad under 5lbs. I know I read somewhere on here that having them spayed before their first heat lessen their chances of getting something pretty dreadful. Can you experts clarify that? Thanks

| My vet spayed Jewels at 6 months and removed some teeth. Is there some reason he wants you to wait like removing teeth?

| I heard you can spay them at 6 months, and i know people who have spayed earlier but i wouldn't recommend it. My breeder said to Spay Ruby at 8 months and i was nervous about it because i REALLY didn't want her to go into heat. Well mother nature took over and sure enough Ruby went into heat at 6 1/2 months, she even went through the whole false pregnancy thing too. So i wasn't able to get her spayed until she was a little over 8 months. It's basically up to you and if you don't have a problem with her going through her first heat (which could come soon seeing she's 7 months) then you can wait until she is a year old to Spay. |

| The book I read, which I really do recommend, said not to spay until at least 4 months, so being new to ownership of a yorkie, I had mine done right about 4-5 months and they both did fine, although Chloe threw up and had to be kept overnight. I had this "fear" of them going into heat, I don't know why. If I had to do it again, I'd wait until about 7 months, it just seems to be a better timeline for such small dogs. |

| I had Bella spayed at 6 months and she was 3 lbs. then. Now, she is a 1 yr. old and at 5.0 lbs. exactly. I did not want her to go into heat either.

| My vet neutered Tyson, Coty & Conan at 6 months old. I am going to wait and have Jagger neutered at 9 months.

| Porscha is getting sprayed at the end of the month she will be a year old a week before that she she hasn't went into heat yet. I dunno why but she hasn't good for me! She weighs 3 pounds now how much weight do you think she will end up gaining? And is it weird she hasn't went into heat? |

| The chance of them getting cancer goes up about 8% after the first heat and the percentage increases with each heat.

Shelby just had it done last week at 6 months of age. I really struggled with the timing too and did my best to weigh pros and cons. Part of me also wanted to wait a little longer...push my luck. I didn't want her to go into heat b/c I wanted to reduce risk of cancer as much as possible. But waiting longer makes the teeth issue easier and smaller Yorkies get more time to grow a bit. I am glad it is over with but the WORST part of the whole thing is still going on around here. Keep Shelby quiet....calm....no running...no jumping. yaright. | |

| As long as she is large enough, healthy enough and has her permanent teeth she can be done. Not sure why your vet wants you to wait, but if you trust him, follow his advice. The reason to wait for the teeth is so that the retained baby teeth can be extracted and any cleaning can be done whilst she is under anesthesia.. Just be sure the vet does a blood panel before the surgery and uses one of the 2 newer gases.. |
