| The problem I have with this quote is that if it is a good breeder, they will be socializing the puppy from a very early age. All of mine came to me 12 weeks and older and were very well socialized because they came from very good breeders.

I'm sorry but this is just not true or we would all be having a horrible time after bringing home our puppies. Normally the threads asking for help for their new puppy is from people who got the puppy too early. Like I stated before, I got mine from 12 weeks - 1 year and they never showed any signs of "distress" or never went frantically looking for their mom or siblings. They were happy and well adjusted from day one.

| i would interpret this statement like this... this is what can happen if they leave before the 7 week mark: If they leave the mother and their littermates to early it can result in the pup not learning everything a mother should teach her puppies and the puppy could look at you as his or her new mom. Sounds good? You won't think so the your new puppy follows you around, at your feet all the time. this part is telling you that puppies before 12 weeks should boound with their new family in their new home: If you wait too long your puppy will miss you on the important socialization they need before about 11 or 12 weeks of age. i know iam right and iam sure you know your right but i surpose you will tell me that chopping off puppies tails is good as well or cutting of their dew claws iam just so glad thats illegal over here

All puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve (12) weeks of age to facilitate adequate socialization as well as appropriate emotional and temperament development through interaction with siblings, dam and other dogs. As for the tails: That is the standard, tail to be docked, not that I agree with that, but that is the way it is. As for dewclaws: They can cause alot of harm just as well. You might have me with the tail issue, but NEVER on the age of when a puppy leaves my home!!!!!!!! My oldest baby boy who will be 10 weeks old tomorrow weighs 1lb 10oz, I can't even imagine letting him go that small, not to mention with only one set of shots!!!!!!

I completely agree with everything you say. Obviously though, this person is not going to change their mind, so let's just say.........So glad we are in the good ole' USA!!!!!!!! LOL I am so happy that I get my puppies after 12 weeks and they are not considered too old, or second-hand puppies.

and can you please show me where it states that breeders giving their puppies away at 12 weeks are considered "second hand" if you would read my statement rightly i said over here in england if you was looking in local ads the only people who would be selling a pup at 12 to 16 weeks are people didnt want them no more i.e they had work committments or couldnt handle a dog i DID NOT mean that you lot as breeders were giving away "second hand" pups this was my exact words..... over here in england no one would consisder a dog of 16 weeks a new puppy we would class it as a second hand pup because the only people who are getting selling a pup at that age would be people who dont want them no more and you say glad i live in the US i have nowt against the US but when it comes to animal rights iam very glad i live in England because its illegal to chop puppies tails off or cut their dew claws off or de-claw cats so yer iam glad i live in the good ole England !!!! you lot have made me so angry i replyed to this girls post about her bringing her dog home when she feels right and you all attacked me and now its turned into a witch hunt. i feel sorry for the OP because all she wanted was some good comments becauses excited to get her yorkie and all you did was tell her she shouldnt take it away from its mum too soon at the end of the day its not your problem how this pup turns out so next time try to be a bit more nicer because everytime i make a thread on this forum at least one person has to critise me!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I am just so very sorry you are so angry. I did not talk to you like you were an idiot. I stated my opinions just like you did. I apologize if that offends you. I said "this person", which there is NOTHING bad about that, because I do not know you, or your name. My point about the second hand puppy was that I am VERY proud that my breeders choose to keep their puppies to 12 weeks, and that they do not have to be second hand here to get them at that age. I see NOTHING wrong with removing the dew claws. It is so easy for them to get them hung on things and tear them out, and this is much more painful than removing them when they are a few days old. NOBODY has turned this in to a witch hunt. We all have a right to state what we believe. We disagreed yes, but we said nothing bad about you as a person, we just didn't agree with taking the puppy home so young and wanted the OP to hear all of the info. Now please dont take things so offensive. Smile and have a great day.

| Donating YT 2000 Club Member | They won't dock a tail but will send a baby home without any shots and chances of serious problems being so young...like hypoglycemia, parvo and on and on. Those things will kill a pup fast.

| I am currently searching for my 2nd yorkie and am coming across SO many people letting their pups go at 8 weeks old (sometimes sooner). I bypass those ads very quickly. I do NOT want to have to go through the horror of my puppy dying in front of me from low blood sugar or a disease that it is not yet vaccinated against. We pay a LOT of money for well bred, well socialized yorkies - it should be the breeders job to ensure that the puppy is kept long enough for mom to teach it all that it needs to know. 6 weeks is far too young to bring home a yorkie... Especially if it's one that's been bred to standard, it is going to be very tiny. I would be terrified of something happening and me not knowing what to do. Some are lucky and have no issues with young pups.. but if you search through this site you'll find plenty who have had issues... some who have spent thousand of dollars to save their pups, and some who have gone through the heart ache of losing them way too soon...

Its not anyone else's problem but the OPs how her puppy turns out but I can guarantee you almost everyone on this forum and involved in this thread has this puppy's health & happiness in mind. If the OP does not take the advice thats been given to her then that his her choice and everyone on here will be there to offer her the support when she needs it. People are allowed to disagree without it being a verbal attack. It is the internet after all and it is up to you how you interpret another person's response.

| I got my pup at 13 weeks and she came with her first round of vaccinations. I agree, you should wait until your pup is at least 12 weeks. In addition, my vet is making me wait 3 weeks between her second round of shots and her last round of shots. During this time, my vet advised that Chi-Chi remain indoors and if I take her out, it should be for a very limited time. I keep her inside a majority of time and the time she spent out has been from car to front door. Also, your pup should should start socializing before four months. If your breeder is separating the litter early, your pup will also miss out on socialization. A lack of socialization can lead to behavioral problems, so please speak to your breeder about the possible consequences of separating the pups too early. All the best! |
