| Looking buy my first dog/Yorkie..ADVICE NEEDED! Hello All, My name is Natalie I live in South Tampa Florida. I am currently babysitting my friends Teacup Yorkie that is 2 pounds and I have completely fell inlove with it and now want one. I am looking to get a Teacup or a Toy..is there a difference? Also is there a site or a place I could buy my yorkie?? I have never owned a dog before and I need as much advice as possible. The reason I want a dog.... I want a companionship. My fiancee does military work and get deployed here and there for 4 months at a time and I need something to keep me company whille he is away and I truly think that a yorkie would do that for me. My main concerns... When my fiancee is home the dog will obviously get more walks because someone would always be home and wouldnt leave the dog alone no longer than 4 hours. With my fiancee being away I work M-F 9-6 job and I wanted to know if it would be ok to leave the dog alone for that many hours? Please leave your adivce I would truly appreciate to hear from each of you that have the experience of a yorkie...you all are the best to get the advice from. |

| hi, You must do some home work before you set off to look at puppies, to avoid you falling in love with the first you see. You need to know that a breeder , a good and responsible breeder must be your only option. because you do not want to support puppy mills and pet stores or brokers. These are a huge NO_NO... you will find a ton of information about these and will understand. When looking for a breeder see how they will treat you, if they have a passion for their dogs, if they can talk to you about the breed, and get you educated about the breed and their own dogs. Also try to sense if they are only interested on selling a dog to make a buck or if they honestly care about the kind of home the puppy may be going to. Be careful with the words: teaCup, toy and tiny. There is a lot of controversy about them as there are no specific definitions about these words as there is only one standard for the yorkie breed. Many breeders may be well aware of that and when you ask about a TeaCup they will immediately educate you an the word and they may say that it is the only way they know to describe a smaller than standard yorkie. Some people buy teacups that end up being "Teapots". Yorkie breed is a TOY breed, so all yorkies are TOY sized and classified. If you find a nice breeder you are off to a great start and an awesome relationship , with your dog and the humans who bred him. Good Luck in your search ! XOXO

| Welcome to YT! You have come to the right place to get the answers to your questions and then some. The best advice I can give you, is to look at the different posts here. There is so much to learn about the Yorkshire Terrier including health concerns. If you will notice, there are breeders here on this site that breed for quality and not to make money. As far as leaving your little one alone while you work, I personally wouldn't but that is me. I would look into having a dog walker come in and spend some time with your little one. Again, that is my choice/opinion. Good luck!!!!
