| getting whacked Colt is getting neutered on the 17th of this month. I took a week off of work to take care of him. I feel bad because I couldnt take off work when I had Marley spayed. I know that the spaying procedure is more evasive than the neuter. He is 6 months and 5 lbs. Any tips? He is super super active and wild. I am not too thrilled about getting it done again at our base vet because they did not give me pain meds to take home with Marley when I had her fixed and she shook for 3 days out of pain. They had told me they pumped her full of pain meds before they gave her back to me, but to me that just did not seem like enough. Like I said, any tips? I'll be home all day to take care of my wittle boy this time, I am really happy about that.

| We just had our boy neutered and they sent us home with pain meds. He is also VERY active. I had to literally hold him down for a few days and crate him when I couldn't hold him. After a few days, I let him go hog wild for a little bit and just gradually increased his play time. It really depends on if he has stitches too. Tucket didn't have any that I could see. I think they may have used dermabond. Also, if the scrotum fills with blood and it swells a little, that's normal. They didn't tell us that. Hope all works out! Good luck! |

| He should be given pain meds because it is still surgery, but fortunately it seems to be much less painful than a spay. I think you'll hase to work hard at keeping him quiet.

| Exactly!!! But I guess this is just how it has to be unfortunately. I feel horrible but the vet on base won't give them anything unless they have complications after the surgery . I had tears in my eyes watching Marley shake uncontrollabley after I got her back. It pissed me off more than anything. Heck, even when I go the the REAL military doctor all they want to give you is motrin and send you on your way. Be thankful you don't get treated by a military doctor .. all of us military people call the hospitals on base "hobby shops" It took them 6 months to diagnose me with a dislocated middle toe Even after xrays and medicines...

| Bailey was neutered Oct 9th at a little over 25 weeks and was sent home without pain meds too. He was crying and shaking the first night, I was quite upset at my vet for not giving me meds for him. He was fine the next day, but I had to make sure he wore a sweater that prevented him from licking his stitches. I wish you all the best with your little guy!

| Neutering When Zekie got neutered, he had one undecended testicle so he had two incisions. They sewed him up with catgut, and I was really glad because of how active he is and was. They did not send any pain meds. home with him, but he never seemed to be in any pain. We held him for two days mostly because it took him a while to totally come out of the anithesia (sp) and we wanted to make sure that he did not lick his stitches. He never bothered his stitches and after two days was jumping and bouncing all over the place. |

| Best wishes to Colt! Our vet gave us 3 days worth of the controversial pain med Rimadyl (forgive me if I have misspelled it). Thankfully my little guy Max didn't need it, so I threw it away. When Max came home from his surgery, all he needed was food, lots of hugs, and gentle reminders not to run and jump. |

| Cooper is also a wild man.....it hurt him to go pee the first couple of times. They sent us home with like 2 doses of Rimadyl (sp) and was told to only use it if he really needed it since they had just given him a dose after surgery......He did NOT miss a beat when he got home. He slept most of that afternoon/evening and did hurt to go pee, but the next morning It made me a nervous wreck because he was jumping from the couch, on to the loveseat like nothing ever happened. I too put him in his crate most of the first full day just because I was scared he was going to rip something being so active.

| They'll ask you to keep him quiet for a few days. Best thing to do is either keep him in an x-pen or crate, that is when you can't hold him. Don't allow him to jump, he will have sutures so, you don't want to give him any chance of having the incision opening. The pain meds will help keep him down. You can ask for Metacam, it is a anti-inflamitory pain med. Or you can ask your vet if Children's Benadryl can be given. Boys tend to bounce back faster than girls. But, with the new anesthesias of today Isoflorine or Sevo both sexes bounce back so much faster than the old days. Oh! Ask for blood work to be done on him too. FYI don't allow them to give you Durmaxx as a pain med.....too many dogs have had adverse reactions to it and some have been lost.

Will they give him a pain injection. Yes, it's ok to hold him as much as you want, but be prepared for one spoiled baby when this is all over.
